LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rob Reiner has won a posthumous Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Albert Schnurr in 'The Bear.' The late actor and filmmaker was recognized for his performance in the fourth season of the FX series.

Reiner's win came nine months after his death and marked a major moment in his Emmy history. His victory also made him the first performer since Raul Julia in 1995 to win a posthumous Emmy for an on-camera acting performance.

The role earned Reiner a posthumous nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series before he went on to win the award. He was nominated alongside Michael J. Fox, Brett Goldstein, Hamish Linklater, Christopher McDonald and Connor Storrie.

Reiner's performance in 'The Bear' marked his first performance-related Emmy nomination since 1978. He had previously won two Emmys for playing Michael 'Meathead' Stivic on 'All in the Family' in 1974 and 1978.

Before 'The Bear,' Reiner's most recent Emmy nominations came in 2024 for directing and producing the documentary 'Albert Brooks: Defending My Life.' His latest nomination brought his career Emmy total to eight, with three wins.

Rob Reiner's posthumous Emmy makes history

The win gave Reiner a rare distinction in Emmy history. His victory marked the first posthumous Emmy for an on-camera acting performance since Raul Julia's win in 1995. Julia received the award for his performance in 'The Burning Season.'

Reiner's latest Emmy added another acting honor to his long television career, decades after his earlier success on 'All in the Family.' His performance as Albert Schnurr brought him recognition in the guest actor category late in his career and ultimately earned him a posthumous Emmy.

The award marked Reiner's third Emmy win overall. His previous two victories came for his performance as Michael Stivic on 'All in the Family.' His latest recognition therefore added another acting honor to a career that spanned television, film and directing.

Reiner's role in 'The Bear' was also among his final onscreen performances. The Los Angeles Times reported that the series paid tribute to him in its finale with a line referencing his 1987 film 'The Princess Bride.'

With the posthumous Emmy, Reiner added one final acting honor to a television career that had already earned him two Emmys for 'All in the Family.' His latest win also gave him a place in Emmy history as the first posthumous on-camera acting winner since Julia's 1995 recognition.
