Rob Reiner’s daughter Romy features in the same show her dad last appeared on before his death
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Reiner legacy continues through Romy Reiner, who recently appeared on Larry David’s HBO series 'Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness', marking a full-circle moment after her first major break with David in 2021 on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'.
Notably, the 28-year-old's father, Rob Reiner, also filmed his final on-screen appearance for the same show before his and his wife Michele Reiner's tragic deaths in December last year.
Romy Reiner continues her family’s legacy on Larry David’s series
Romy, the youngest child of comedy legend Rob and Michele, appeared in the seventh and final episode of David’s 'Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness' on Friday, August 7. She played an exasperated nurse caring for an ill President William Henry Harrison, portrayed by Fred Melamed.
Her appearance marked a full-circle moment, as her first major break came in 2021 when she played a cashier on David’s celebrated HBO series 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'. Her latest role carries particular significance because her father’s final on-screen performance before his death also came in the series.
Rob appeared in the episode 'Farewell', released July 3, just over a month before Romy closed out the series with the episode 'Lawrence'.
The star-studded sketch show, produced by former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, filters significant historical events through David’s irreverent perspective. Rob appeared as George Washington, whose attempt to announce his decision to step down from the presidency was repeatedly delayed by David’s increasingly absurd hypothetical consequences.
Romy later appeared as a nurse dealing with Harrison after he caught a cold following a two-hour speech without an overcoat.
Romy and Jake Reiner remember their parents
Romy and her siblings, Jake and Tracy Reiner, were devastated when their parents’ bodies were discovered at their Los Angeles home on December 14. Their brother Nick Reiner has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths and pleaded not guilty.
Romy and Jake have continued honoring their parents’ memory, including throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a Dodgers-Red Sox game earlier this month. Jake also wrote an essay in April about the family’s struggle to cope with the tragedy.
In a Substack essay published in April, Jake reflected on life after his parents’ deaths, writing that the family had lost more than half of its members “in the most violent way imaginable.” He described losing both parents simultaneously, while also having his brother at the center of the tragedy, as almost impossible to process.
The 35-year-old also asked for privacy, noting that some answers would come with time while some matters belonged only to the family. Jake revealed that he learned of his parents’ deaths while at Los Angeles’ Union Station for a celebration of life honoring one of his best friends.
Romy called him to tell him their father was dead and then called back minutes later to tell him their mother was also dead. Jake wrote that his world had collapsed and that he immediately needed to return to his childhood home and be with Romy.
They had previously shared a joint statement on December 17 describing the loss as unimaginable and asking for privacy, compassion and humanity. Meanwhile, Nick has accused Jake and Romy of backing out of an alleged agreement to fund his legal defense.
In a probate petition filed June 8, Nick sought access to a $1.5 million trust established by his parents to re-engage attorney Alan Jackson. Jackson, who previously represented him, withdrew after anticipated funding from his siblings allegedly was not provided.
