LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Role Model recently opened up about rumored girlfriend Dakota Johnson's spoken word cameo on his new album, 'Chuck Timely & The Hourglass', which releases on August 7 via Interscope Records.
The 29-year-old singer, whose real name is Tucker Harrington Pillsbury, revealed that he had been considering "a lot of names" for the part before Johnson unexpectedly volunteered to step into the recording booth, creating what he called an "amazing cameo."
Role Model explains how Dakota Johnson landed 'Love I You' cameo
Role Model recently sat down for an interview with Nylon, where he opened up about Johnson's spoken word cameo in his song 'Love I You'. He shared that while he was considering "a lot of names," “Dakota came to the studio one day, and Mason [Stoops, guitarist and producer] was like, ‘Why don’t you do it?’”
“I was like, ‘Stop! We’re not mixing work and relationships.’ She was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and stood right up and got in the booth and knocked it out better than we could have imagined. So I was like, ‘OK, if she’s down’ — I mean, that’s an amazing cameo,” he added.
Role Model says he prefers to keep his relationship private
Elsewhere during the interview, the 'Sally, When The Wine Runs Out' hitmaker shared that he likes to keep details of his relationship private.
“Keeping things about music is what I’ve learned. Otherwise, the internet just has a field day. Everyone’s a detective,” he added.
Role Model was previously romantically involved with internet personality Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023.
Dakota Johnson was in a long-term relationship with Chris Martin
On the other hand, Johnson was in a relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin for nearly eight years, and the two had reportedly gotten engaged.
In June 2025, PEOPLE, citing sources, reported that they had parted ways, with one source asserting that “it feels final this time.”
The 'Fifty Shades of Grey' star and Martin were first romantically linked in 2017, three years after his split from former wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
Though they mostly remained tight-lipped about their romance, Johnson told Bustle in 2024, “I love watching him. I could watch him every day. I don’t know how to explain it. I feel like, I don’t know... I’m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing.”
Dakota Johnson is reportedly taking things slow with Role Model
Meanwhile, speaking about the actress' new romance with Role Model, an insider told PEOPLE a few months ago, “It's definitely more than a fling, or just a flirt.”
The source also said that the 36-year-old “does really like” her new boyfriend “but is also taking things slow after her previous long-term relationship.”
