LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dakota Johnson is in "incredible pain" following her split from Coldplay's Chris Martin, as the couple decided to end their relationship after eight years together, an insider informed The Sun.

The pair sparked relationship rumors in 2017 and were engaged a few years back. However, on Wednesday, June 4, it was revealed that the couple had decided to part ways.

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin's careers reportedly pulled them in different directions

An insider revealed to the outlet that the real reason for the split between Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin is that their careers have pulled them in different directions.

"Dakota wanted this relationship to work. She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard," the source said.

The insider added, "Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn't moving forwards."

Interestingly, even though the couple admitted that having children together was never the plan, their careers had also been getting in the way of their settling down together.

"Settling down, as in Chris properly taking his foot off the pedal, isn't going to happen. And, ultimately, it was one of the many straws that broke the back of them," the insider said.

The Daily Mail on Wednesday revealed their split after a source said, "Their relationship has been over for a long time, they just haven't been able to figure out to make it official."

The insider added, "Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much."

The source also said, "Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore."

"Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them," the insider further said.

Sources say the split 'feels final this time'

"Multiple" sources informed People that the latest breakup between Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin "feels final this time".

During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times on June 4, the actress talked about love and modern relationships while promoting her new film 'Materialists', which will be released on June 13.

She shared, "The paradox. Everyone being confused about what the f**k they’re supposed to do with their hearts. And what’s the right move? I found that very honest and I found it just so relatable", when asked what made her role in the film feel different.

"For a long time, we’ve all been so quick to judge relationships or how they should happen, how they should exist in the world, when people should get married, divorce is bad," Johnson added.

She also said, "All these things that actually, if you think about it, why is divorce bad? Why do people have to get married or at a certain age or only once? Why? It doesn’t matter."
