While speculation about the status of their relationship persists, Chris Martin avoided direct commentary, maintaining his preference for keeping matters of romantic love private and precious.
In the interview, Martin named a select group of individuals he considers his best friends.
“Phil [Harvey], Dakota, Jonny [Buckland], Will [Champion], and Guy [Berryman],” he said, referring to Dakota Johnson, his bandmates, and the band’s manager as "My Kids."
Martin acknowledged the rumors of engagement and a cooled-down relationship but chose not to address them directly.
“It is important to say that [romantic love] is such a big factor in everything, even though it feels right to keep it precious and private; I’m not denying its power,” he said.
He did, however, share that he and Johnson recently listened to Kacey Musgraves’ album 'Golden Hour' together, hinting at a shared bond through music.
Chris Martin reflects on sadness and joy in songwriting
Reflecting on his approach to music, Chris Martin opened up about the emotions that have influenced his songwriting.
“There’s a part of me that’s always been a bit heartbroken from the beginning,” he said, describing his early affinity for breakup songs.
“Maybe about the world, maybe just about the human condition. I hope that doesn’t sound pretentious. I don’t care if it sounds pretentious, it’s true. I’ve always had this deep joy mixed with a deep sadness,” Martin added.
The musician also discussed his feelings about his children moving out. Martin is dad to daughter Apple, 20, and son Moses, 18, with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. They finalized their divorce in 2014.

His youngest, Moses, started college earlier this year, and Apple is now a junior at Vanderbilt University.
“It’s sad. That’s the only word,” he said about being an empty nester.

Despite his sadness over his children leaving home, Chris Martin still finds joy in his role as a father.
“My favorite new thing to embarrass my son is, if we’re walking down the street and someone comes up to us and they say, ‘I’m sorry to disturb you while you’re with your son,’ I say, ‘That’s not my son. That’s my partner,’” he said with a laugh.
The family recently reunited in Paris for Apple’s debut at the prestigious Le Bal Des Debutantes.
Martin joked that although he wouldn’t have imagined attending such an event, he agreed because of his love for Apple.
“The ball is so not something I ever thought I’d do, but because I’m so in love with her, I’m like, ‘OK',” he said.
