Roy Wood Jr sparks viral 'When I Turned Black' trend to mock Trump's comments on Kamala Harris' race
WASHINGTON, DC: Former Comedy Central personality Roy Wood Jr has transformed Donald Trump's recent incomprehensible insinuation aimed at Vice President Kamala Harris into an inventive retort on behalf of Black Americans.
“All in all, I still believe that this is an election that is about Kamala's ability to win voters (undecided and apatheic) than it is about Trump losing voters,” in an exclusive statement, Wood conveyed to The Daily Beast.
He went on to say, “Biden handed her a baton, and Kamala must now run like the wind because it doesn’t seem like anything will trip up Trump—not even honest questions from great NABJ journalists who gave push back when they could.”
Donald Trump claims Kamala Harris 'happened to turn Black'
Trump gained notoriety by claiming that Kamala Harris "happened to turn Black" a few years ago and that she only promotes her Indian ancestry.
“I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black,” Trump said. “And now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”
Referring to Harris's campaign statement in which she criticized Trump for his "attacks and insults" and urged him to "stop playing games and actually show up" at the next presidential debate on September 10, Wood continued, "Kamala's team had a reply ready faster than a Kendrick diss."
We now know Kamala’s brave story. When did the rest of you “turn” black? How old were you? Where were you when the blackness finally took over your body? Share your stories. This is a safe space. #WhenITurnedBlack pic.twitter.com/URBx3fqcbh

Harris is South Asian and Black; his father is from Jamaica and his mother is from India. In 1986, she earned her degree from Howard University, a historically Black college, and joined the first Black sorority.
Users took Trump's words and ran with them, pushing #WhenITurnedBlack to the #3 spot on X, despite the fact that most Americans are aware of the concept of interracial relationships and that his new twist on the birtherism allegations against Barack Obama is easily verified.
#WhenITrunedBlack trends after Roy Wood Jr's viral post
Some individuals have expressed that they truly "turned Black" after they became proficient in the card game Spades. A user said, "I turned Black the first time I played the big joker in spades. It was quite a momentous occasion #WhenITurnedBlack"

Others underwent the transformation after storing dinner leftovers in recycled grocery containers, "I remember it like it was yesterday... I must have been about 7 or 8, and my mother told me to put the food away after dinner. I looked in the cabinet where the Tupperware was kept and grabbed the empty Country Crock tub. That was when I knew... #WhenITurnedBlack"

Some people "turned Black" because they knew right away that the response to any request for money spent outside the home would be, "Do you have money for that?"
"I asked my mother out the womb if I could have McDonalds. She replied, “do you have McDonald’s money?” That’s when I knew… #WhenITurnedBlack" One remarked.

Some feel that their understanding of Blackness deepened when they accepted that attending Church could be an all-day event, "When I realized that the preacher saying “I’m almost finished, I ain’t gone hold y’all all day” meant we had another two hours to go. #WhenIturnedBlack"

A person said, "2nd grade. I’m the only black student in class. We have to let the class guess the object we are describing w/o seeing it. I forgot an object but had a purse-sized lotion in my desk. I describe it as “you use it when you’re ashy.” *Blank stares* And that is #WhenITurnedBlack"
