Sandra Bullock calls Jennifer Aniston ‘one of my protectors’ in rare friendship insight
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sandra Bullock is opening up about her fiercely private life, her close friendship with Jennifer Aniston, and her role as a mother while discussing her return to the spotlight with 'Practical Magic 2' during a conversation with Interview magazine.
Bullock also reflected on protecting her children, maintaining their privacy, and surrounding herself with the trusted people she relies on most.
Sandra Bullock reveals Jennifer Aniston protects her privacy
During the conversation, Aniston asked Bullock how she protects the private version of herself from the public.
She responded that Aniston is “one of my protectors” and explained that she has been “insanely private” since childhood, even recalling that it drove her mother crazy.
Bullock has also spoken about the private group of supporters she relies on.
On the 'SmartLess' podcast, she revealed that she had confided in her sister Gesine Bullock-Prado and Aniston about her late partner Bryan Randall’s amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diagnosis years before he died in August 2023 at age 57.
“I love being in a safe group,” Bullock told Aniston, adding that nothing makes her happier than visiting Aniston’s house and spending time with everyone.
Although being a celebrity means dealing with situations where people take and sell her privacy, Bullock said she loves telling stories and views it as her job to go out and represent.
Once she is out there, she added, “I have a blast.” Aniston has also brought Bullock into her circle of friends, giving her invitations to dinner parties, vacations, holiday gatherings, and more.
The two relate over their experiences in Hollywood, including frightening incidents involving stalkers.
Bullock’s home was broken into in 2014 while she was inside, while Aniston was at home in May when a 48-year-old man drove his car into her gate.
Bullock also recalled how carefully she protected her children’s privacy. In 2010, following her divorce from Jesse James after his infidelity, she hid her then-newborn son Louis from paparazzi by using a hockey bag. “You have to operate like the CIA. If you’re surrounded by good people, you’ll be fine,” she told Aniston.
Sandra Bullock dedicates ‘Practical Magic 2’ to daughter
Bullock revealed that 'Practical Magic 2' is a “love letter of my sorry's” to her 12-year-old daughter Laila, whom she wants to “do right by.”
She explained that Laila is very much like Kylie, the character played by Joey King, and described her daughter as “the fire.”
Bullock said she wanted to give Laila a love letter of her apologies, adding, “If I failed, if I don’t know how to say the right thing, I apologize.”
She said she wants to help Laila be as brave as she already is, while admitting that this frightens her because she considers herself a fearful person, unlike her daughter.
Laila, she added, thinks nothing can happen to her because she has already survived. In addition to Laila, Bullock is a mother to 16-year-old Louis.
At the Los Angeles premiere of 'Practical Magic 2' on August 31, she revealed that both children have small roles in the film.
Their appearances are not obvious, and Bullock said she was excited to show them where their cameos appear because they do not know where they are.
She called herself “unbelievably proud” of her children and said they have become positive influences on her.
Louis is her “steadfast moral barometer,” while Laila helps her with “spotting things and thinking forward.”
She described them as completely different but said they give her “two halves of a whole.”
