NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News host Sean Hannity got on a phone interview with former President Donald Trump, probing his views on the possibility of Joe Biden quitting the 2024 race following his lackluster performance in CNN's first presidential debate.

"Mr President, what's your take on Joe Biden potentially stepping aside? Does it matter to you?" Hannity bluntly asked during the interview.

Donald Trump slams Biden and predicts World War III in Hannity interview

The telephonic conversation between Trump and Hannity comes after President Biden adopted a more aggressive strategy to counter calls for his withdrawal after his poor debate performance against Trump, marking a shift from the previous week when he was criticized for not responding promptly as per The Hill.

“Well, we prepared for him, but I don’t think it’s gonna matter,” replied Trump. “We had a great four years, our border was the strongest ever, our economy pre-Covid was incredible, the best ever. But then when we got hit with the gift from China, the China virus, that came and we did a fantastic job.”

Trump went on to highlight the achievements of his initial term in office, and then remarked, “We’re heading into World War III in my opinion with this man semi-running things. ‘Cause he’s not running things, the people that surround the Oval Office, the people that surround the Resolute desk, the beautiful Resolute desk, they’re really running things in Washington I suspect, and it’s very bad.”

“What do you make all of the talk that if Biden steps aside or is pushed out, that it would be Vice President Harris?” questioned Hannity. “Do you expect that much would change?”

Trump responded, “Well, I believe it will be her. They seem extremely worried about the outcome if it’s not her. They’re very cautious, almost afraid, to take any other route. I’ve actually come to think that’s exactly what they’ll end up doing.”

He concluded, “I think she’s an ineffective person, she was in charge of the border, she’s never been there, she didn’t do a good job, and she hasn’t done a job on a lot of other things, but it would seem to me from a political standpoint that’s who they’re going with. They’re not even talking about alternatives.”

The internet mocked Hannity after he asked Trump if Biden should step down following a disastrous debate performance.

A particular viewer expressed, "Remember when Hannity tried literally coach Trump into giving a smart answer to his theft of highly classified documents like a small child, and Trump still blurted ‘I did it! I’m allowed to!’"

Following suit, another observer added, "The GOP is now the most felon-friendly organization in America."

Additionally, a viewer pointed out, "How can we make Joe Biden look cool again? (less turnip-like)"

A follower contributed, "Millionaire Sean Hannity is paid by the billionaire class to convince the working class that the middle class is their enemy."

A comment underscored, "Hannity asks the mentally sick pathological lying cult leader: ''Do you want me to paint Biden's house?''

Another comment echoed, "Trumpers believe anything.. They aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed. Facts don’t convince them they need mystery to believe."

An individual elaborated further, saying, "Sean Scammity = Waterboard Coward."
