Self-styled investigator claims daughter Annie asked Nancy for loan before she disappeared
TUCSON, ARIZONA: Even months after her disappearance in February 2026, there has been no update on the whereabouts of Nancy Guthrie until recently, when a self-styled investigator made a shocking revelation.
While the authorized investigative team continues to make efforts to trace the lead in the case, the independent investigator claimed that Nancy’s daughter, Annie, had asked her for a loan before she disappeared.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Catalina Foothills home near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. Authorities believe she was taken the night before.
Annie Guthrie asked for a loan from Nancy
Jonathan Lee-Riches, a self-styled investigator, made a bombshell claim about Annie Guthrie.
In a post on X, JLR said he had been told Annie had asked Guthrie for a loan before the latter vanished from her home. “I'm told Annie asked Nancy Guthrie for a loan before she vanished from her home,” he wrote, sharing a photo of the two. “Someone plans to move into Nancy Guthrie's home. Who could it be?” JLR added.

However, JLR did not name his source nor provide any other proof to back his claims.
Lee-Riches was following the case on the ground in Tucson but headed back when no significant progress could be seen in the investigation.
Are Annie and Tommaso involved in Nancy’s disappearance?
Amid the mounting speculations around Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, a significant amount of it has been directed towards Nancy’s daughter, Annie, and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni.
Nancy had dinner with daughter Annie, the night before her disappearance, and son-in-law Cioni dropped her off at home after the dinner, making them the last people seen with Nancy.
Speculation around the duo has also originated from the fact that they lived near Nancy’s home, and interest around the two only grew when news of the sheriff's office holding on to their vehicle got out.
Earlier, journalist Ashleigh Banfield had reported that Cioni might be a suspect in the matter. However, the sheriff's office countered her claim and stated that none of Nancy’s family members were suspects.
Claims that legal documents were in Annie and Cioni’s names also fanned the speculation around the couple’s involvement. Amid the growing public scrutiny, Nancy’s other daughter, TODAY show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has come forward to defend Annie and Cioni. Savannah slammed the speculations and said that the couple loved Nancy Guthrie.
