WASHINGTON, DC: Corey Lewandowski, campaign adviser for GOP nominee and former president Donald Trump, was fact-checked by Fox News host Shannon Bream for falsely claiming that "many" Democrats supported infanticide, on Sunday, September 1.

Lewandowski made this claim while trying to defend Trump against recent criticism from anti-abortion advocates.

According to Mediaite, conservatives who level this false claim often cite comments made by former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam in 2019.

"If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother," Northam had reportedly stated while describing a specific case involving the live birth of an infant who could not survive on its own outside the womb and the medical decisions to be made thereafter.

A spokesperson had further clarified that Northam was “absolutely not … referring to the euthanasia of infants born after a failed abortion".

Corey Lewandowski's conversation with Shannon Bream

On 'Fox News Sunday', Shannon Bream questioned Corey Lewandowski about Donald Trump recently coming under fire from a group of anti-abortion conservatives.

In response, he tried to shift the focus on Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, saying, "Kamala Harris … has had a radical position on the issue of abortion. Many Democrats believe that you can have an abortion not only up until the last week but also in some cases after the baby’s been born.”

He was promptly called out by the anchor, who stated, "To be clear, in a number of states, there is abortion allowed through pregnancy. And that includes a measure that Governor Tim Walz signed in Minnesota. But Democrats say they absolutely disavow the idea of infanticide or of a baby that does survive an abortion somehow their life being taken at that point."

"We can continue that debate, because there are a number of states that do allow it through pregnancy. But I think everybody agrees infanticide is illegal and wrong," she added.

Trump has long struggled to solidify his stance on the subject of abortion rights in a post-Roe v Wade era.

On Thursday, August 29, Trump hinted at backing a ballot referendum to expand abortion access in his home state of Florida. However, he backed away from it within 24 hours in the face strong criticism from anti-abortion activists within the GOP.

Internet slams Corey Lewandowski and MAGA for their stance on abortion

Netizens reacting to the story on the website of Mediaite called out MAGA and the GOP for lecturing about "abortion morals".

"These MAGA incels are weird AF," wrote a person.

"I continue to be confused by this strategy. It's like they are doubling down on keeping the stupidest of the base while alienating any potential new voters," observed another.

"This is another perfect example of why America is moving on from MAGA and Team Weirdo. The repeated lies and outrageously insulting fantasies MAGA conjure up are so exhausting, so extreme, they defy all logic," noted a third.

"Corey Lewandowski is a perfect example of why trying to get the old band back together never works," remarked an individual.
