WASHINGTON,DC: Marco Rubio is usually one of the more serious people in the Trump administration.

But put him on a podcast with his wife, Jeanette, and ask him about everything from Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s diet to Pete Hegseth’s cat and the secretary of state suddenly has a lot more to say.

Rubio and Jeanette appeared on Katie Miller’s podcast on Tuesday, August 11, where the conversation veered into sauerkraut coolers, keto-induced rage, Sharknado and his surprisingly simple marriage advice.

Here are the top 5 moments from the podcast that you shouldn't miss.

1. Rubio imagines sharks swimming in the Reflecting Pool

Rubio’s nephew wanted to watch 'Jaws'. Rubio had a different suggestion.

“Jaws is boring,” he said, before recommending 'Sharknado'. That took the conversation in a very Washington direction.

Rubio recalled a 'Sharknado' sequel in which sharks end up in Washington, including inside the White House and, notably, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

“I think it’s number three, that’s in Washington, DC, and the sharks are in the White House, and there’s a president that’s shooting at them,” Rubio said.

Then he connected the ridiculous movie to the real-life controversy surrounding the Reflecting Pool.

“There’s a scene where the sharks are in the reflecting pool,” he said. “And this was 10 years ago, so I was like, yeah, I gotta show this to the president. We might have a feature here for people.”

Rubio then imagined the real thing: “Can you imagine if we put sharks in the reflecting pool?”

At that point, even he realized the conversation had gone somewhere unexpected. “This whole thing’s off the rails,” Rubio said. “You’re not even gonna air this thing.”

2. RFK Jr's diet? Rubio wants no part of it

Rubio was equally blunt when asked whether he had adopted Kennedy’s meat-and-fermented-vegetable diet. “No! This is a crazy diet,” Rubio said.

He joked that Kennedy’s routine means eating sauerkraut and meat and would require him to carry the fermented cabbage everywhere.

“He has to travel with coolers of sauerkraut!” Rubio said. “I’m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous. I can’t do it!”

When asked whether he was MAHA, Kennedy’s 'Make America Healthy Again' movement, Rubio initially tried to give the diplomatic answer.

“I’m in favor of MAHA. Like, I think people should be healthy.”

Jeanette immediately cut in. “No, he’s not.”

Asked what Rubio actually eats, she had an answer ready: “Pop-Tarts!”Rubio did not exactly deny it.

3. Rubio tried keto and nearly wanted to bomb Paraguay

The secretary of state also revealed that he once tried a ketogenic diet.

He was not a fan. “I tried keto once,” Rubio said.

“It was a near-psychotic event for me.” Rubio then offered a very Marco Rubio explanation of what went wrong.

“If I had been in this job while doing it, I would’ve been like, ‘Mr. President, we must bomb Paraguay.’”

“And it’s like, why? I don’t know. I’m just really mad. I haven’t had any sugar.”

Apparently, for Rubio, cutting carbs came with some foreign-policy complications.

4. Pete Hegseth’s cat apparently thinks Rubio is the intruder

Rubio also revealed that he had become acquainted with one of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s cats.

His description was not exactly affectionate. “I never took Pete Hegseth for a cat guy,” Rubio said.

He said the cat sometimes sits on his porch when he gets home at night and simply stares at him.

“It’s a very arrogant cat,” Rubio said.

“He’s on my porch acting like, ‘What are you doing in my house?’ And it’s like, no, your house is two doors down.”

Rubio said most cats would run when approached. Not this one.

“He just sits there, tail going like this, staring at you like, ‘What’s up?’”

5. Rubio's secret to a happy marriage!

The most revealing answer came when Rubio and Jeanette were asked about marriage.

“What’s your secret to a happy marriage?” Rubio was asked. His answer was only one word.

“Compliance.” Then he clarified. “For the husband.”

Jeanette, who has been married to Rubio since 1998, has occasionally joined him in public conversations about family and life away from politics.

On Miller’s podcast, however, she also proved more than willing to interrupt him, whether he was claiming to support MAHA or defending Pop-Tarts.

And that may have been the real reason the Rubio appearance worked: the secretary of state who normally talks foreign policy, national security and diplomacy spent the conversation hilariously arguing about sauerkraut, junk food, complaining about a cat and imagining sharks in the Reflecting Pool.
