NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Shawn Mendes is embracing a new chapter in his life, one marked by growth and self-discovery.

Shawn Mendes reveals therapy helped him to be 'no longer extreme'
“Because of therapy, the newest part of myself I like the most is that I’m not as extreme anymore,” Mendes explained.
He also shared how this change has allowed him to approach life with a lighter perspective.
“I don’t feel like I’m waking up every day and stepping into the role of Shawn. I feel like I’m just waking up as him,” he said, noting how this shift has reduced the pressure he once placed on himself.

Mendes also discussed how working on his upcoming album has brought him clarity. “It’s already given me more than any of my albums by so much, and I haven’t even shown anyone,” he revealed.
This introspective creative process, according to Mendes, has been transformative.
During the conversation, John Mayer asked whether Mendes views self-discovery as a lasting process.

“You’re not necessarily a moving target when it comes to figuring yourself out. If you figured another parcel of yourself out, do you get to keep that forever?” Mayer inquired.
Mendes responded thoughtfully, saying, “I’m always here to let parts die. But subconsciously, I hold onto some parts.”
This willingness to evolve reflects his commitment to ongoing personal growth.
Shawn Mendes reflects on 'having all the answers' after first breakup
As per OK Magazine, the conversation also touched on the inevitability of getting older.
Mayer suggested that the challenges Mendes has faced are part of the natural process of growing up.
Mendes agreed, adding, “It’s funny when you go through your first breakup, it feels like you all-of-a-sudden have all the answers in the world.”
Reflecting on his 2023 split from Camila Cabello, Mendes acknowledged how these experiences have shaped him.
“If someone was like, ‘What do you think the number one reason for you feeling generally better these days is?’ I’d probably first answer therapy, and secondly, just taking myself less seriously,” Mendes said, crediting his improved well-being to these key factors.
During his appearance on Jay Shetty’s 'On Purpose' podcast on September 30, Mendes further explored his mental health journey.
He revealed that he experienced anxiety and panic attacks while working on his new album, describing that period as the “darkest point” in his life.
“I did not even know at that point what I felt like and what I looked like to myself,” Mendes shared.
