MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Ana Navarro criticized fellow Latinos who support Donald Trump, labeling their attitudes towards immigration as "very stupid," while speaking with CNN's Jim Acosta on Friday, May 24.

'The View' co-host expressed her frustration, suggesting that some Latino immigrants mistakenly believe that being anti-immigrant will help them "pass as more American."

During the CNN discussion, Navarro emphasized that the attitudes of some Latino Trump supporters only contribute to a divisive atmosphere.

She underscored her point by referencing the 2019 mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, in which a gunman targeted Latinos, killing 23 people and injuring 22 others.

Navarro noted that when racists target Latinos, they do not care about their immigration status or accent and instead view them as part of a group they despise.

"What folks don't realize is that when the guy drives thousands of miles to go hunt down Latinos in a Walmart in Texas, he doesn't care when you came here. He doesn't care what your accent is," said Navarro.

She added, "What he's looking for is, does it look like me, does it sound like me? That's what he's looking for. So, you know, when people are anti-something, they're not asking for your papers, they're just anti-that group."

Navarro, who has been vocally critical of Trump's take on immigration despite being a supporter of the Republican Party, argued that Latino support for anti-immigrant rhetoric is misguided and harmful.

Ana Navarro and Jim Acosta slam Donald Trump for demonizing immigrants in front of a diverse Bronx rally crowd

Navarro and Acosta also engaged in a discussion about the implications of Trump's rally in a historically Democratic area like the Bronx.

The Crotona Park event, which local media estimated drew between 8,000 to 10,000 attendees, was claimed by the Trump campaign to have attracted over 25,000 people.

The diverse crowd included many Black and Latino Americans who were concerned about issues such as illegal immigration, crime, and inflation under President Joe Biden's administration.

Despite the rally's diverse attendance, Trump continued to espouse his harsh rhetoric on immigration, which Navarro and Acosta both criticized as "incendiary" and "divisive."

"[Trump is] using incendiary rhetoric to demonize immigrants during his appeal to black and Hispanic voters," said Acosta, who is the chief domestic correspondent for CNN.

Subsequently, Navarro remarked, "People already know the guy's a misogynist, they already know he's a racist, they already know he says divisive things, and they seem not to take him literally or seriously. They think it is part of a clown act entertainment."

Ana Navarro's criticism of Latino Trump supporters sparks backlash

One expressed, "So much for the tolerant Left," and another shared, "Nothing works better than calling people stupid or deplorable if you want them to listen."

"Talking about a stupid attitude," wrote a person, while someone else noted, "She is very stupid to diss voters. Just because they don’t agree with her that doesn’t make them stupid. They are allowed to vote for who they want."

Another comment read, "Maybe she is the stupid one." "Navarro is one of the dumbest people on CNN which is not a very high bar to cross," remarked an individual.
