CROTONA PARK, NEW YORK: While the crowd at former president Donald Trump's South Bronx rally on Thursday, May 23, was diverse, many of them stated that when selecting a candidate for 2024, they had two main concerns in mind - the economy and illegal immigration.

Amidst an abundance of red hats, American flags, and pro-Trump banners, attendees of all hues claimed to have arrived for quite similar motives.

What did Donald Trump's supporters say?

Tyrone, a Trump supporter from the Bronx, said the 2024 election is a chance "for us to get our country back," Fox News reports. "I'm proud to see that people are waking up and seeing that we need this change for this country," he said. His main concern was illegal immigration, which he claimed was made worse by the tax dollars the government used to provide housing and other assistance to migrants.

"Do it the right way so we know who's who, and we know that we're not letting [in] murderers, rapists … ex-cons from different countries," he said.

Illegal immigration has reached an all-time high in Joe Biden's reign

The Biden administration has seen a sharp increase in illegal immigration. Spending abroad persists even as Americans experience domestic inflation. Additionally, voters in traditionally blue New York are taking Trump more seriously this election season due to President Biden's handling of these issues.

A pro-Trump NYPD officer speaks on Joe Biden's lax border control

"I think there's a wave of people changing their minds about him, especially in the Black community that I know of," said Marilyn Miller, a former NYPD officer who attended the rally from Queens. "They don't like the policies that Joe Biden has put us through — inflation, the migrant situation." Democrats have set up multiple migrant shelters in her neighborhood, she said.

"We do need borders," she said. "Every country has a border, and in the United States of America, he just lets everybody come across the border. Now I have them in my neighborhood, and they're committing crimes."

Although KT, an Orange County resident, traveled an hour to get to the rally from the Hudson Valley, he revealed that his family is from the Bronx. "In terms of where we're at now versus where we were, it's like night and day," he said.

He expressed his hope that a Trump victory would lower inflation. In a later joke, the 45th president told the assembly that bacon had become so expensive that he had given it up.

Queens resident says New York is 'gonna turn red' in support of Donald Trump

Crystal from Queens was wearing a Trump banner as a cape but said she had never before been political until after Biden took office. "Look around," she said. "It's clear and obvious that people are taking him way more serious right now, and New York is gonna turn red."

Even though she lives thousands of miles away from the Mexican border, she claimed that she can see the effects of uncontrolled illegal immigration everywhere she looks. "Close that freaking border now — not now, but right now, like yesterday now," she said. "All of the effects of the border are all around us."

Donald Trump is gaining popularity among Black and Hispanic supporters

Hundreds of people from New York and neighboring states attended the rally, which was held at Crotona Park in the Bronx, a historically Democratic stronghold. In decades, Trump is the first Republican to visit the city on campaign. Furthermore, he would be the first Republican candidate to do so since the 1980s if he follows through on his promise to win his former home state.

In the borough, he received only ten percent of the vote in 2016. However, by 2020, he had significantly improved his standing, and polls indicate that he is still gaining ground with Black and Hispanic voters.
