CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE: At a campaign event in Concord, New Hampshire on Friday, January 19, former President Donald Trump made a statement regarding his potential selection of Nikki Haley as his running mate for the upcoming November general elections.

Trump stated that he did not consider Haley to be "presidential timber" and suggested that this made it unlikely for her to be chosen as his vice presidential candidate, per a report by ABC News.

The remarks from Trump came as Haley attempted to cut into his lead in New Hampshire ahead of the January 23 primary, and his comments reflect an increase in his attacks on his former ambassador to the United Nations.

What did Donald Trump say about Nikki Haley in his caucus rally on Friday?

Trump spent most of his address on Friday attacking Haley, by saying, "I know her very well. She's not tough enough. She's not smart enough. And she wasn't respected enough. She cannot do this job.”

The former president added, "She's not going to be able to deal with President Xi. She's not going to be able to deal with Putin."

During her presidential campaign, Haley refrained from providing a direct response to the inquiry regarding her potential acceptance of the vice presidential position, responding with "I don't play for second."

"I am not running to be vice president. I have said that in every way I know possible," stated Haley during a campaign stop in Iowa earlier this month.

"I don't play for a second. I've never done it in my life. I'm not doing it," the former South Carolina governor clarified her stance on the matter.

Moreover, Haley has contested the notion that Trump would be responsible for selecting a vice president, continuously asserting that she still has a chance to emerge victorious.

"I think that he's not going to even have to worry about picking a VP. I know that I will in six months. That's our whole goal," Haley expressed on Fox News.

In 2017, President Trump appointed Haley as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley served in this role for two years before resigning, following which, President Trump praised her as a "fantastic person" and a "very successful" governor, adding that "she has been very special to me."

However, in recent weeks, the former president ramped up his attacks on his GOP presidential rival claiming that he appointed her to clear the path for his ally, Henry McMaster, to become the governor of South Carolina.

During a Friday’s event in the Granite State, former President Trump was joined by GOP Chairwoman Elise Stefanik and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, both of whom have been mentioned as potential vice presidential candidates.

Stefanik told reporters ahead of Trump's event, "I'd be honored to serve in a future Trump administration in any role. But I'm focused on making sure that we are supporting him, to making sure he is in the strongest position to win this November."

Stefanik proceeded to open for Trump at the event, rallying the MAGA crowd in attendance prior to the arrival of Trump.

During her speech, Stefanik commended Trump as "the strongest Commander in Chief" and implored his ever-ardent supporters to exercise their right to vote for the 77-year-old GOP presidential frontrunner in the state’s upcoming primary on Tuesday.

Senator Tim Scott, a former GOP presidential candidate, endorsed Trump onstage on Friday by stating, "We need a president who will unite our country. We need Donald Trump."

In response, Trump praised Scott, calling him a "very good man" and "very respected man."

Though his campaign team has delayed making any final calls, Trump has recently declared that he knows who he wants to choose as vice president.

Trump shared with Fox News' Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum during the town hall discussion in Iowa when pressed on the matter, "I know who it's going to be.”

Senior adviser for the Trump campaign, Chris LaCivita, told reporters following the town hall, "All I know is what I heard tonight, and I'm not gonna categorize it any other way than that.”

There are other potential candidates that former President Trump could consider partnering with for his upcoming presidential run.

Among these are South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, both of whom have actively campaigned for Trump during the Republican primary cycle.

Internet sides with Trump for not picking Nikki Haley as his vice-presidential candidate

People on X agreed with the former president’s assessment of Haley, and his reasoning behind not picking her to be on the 2024 ticket assuming he emerges as the GOP presidential nominee for the third consecutive time.

One X user remarked, "She's really a democrat so why would he."

Another user argued, "Was Trump in Dumb and Dumber? She has a dedicated following he needs to win the general election. He may not choose her for VP, but to say it at this time is pretty dumb."

Another user said, "Trump and MTG? Lots of Presidents pick VP’s that make people pray the President doesn’t die because of the VP that would replace him."

One user quipped, "Whoa, Trump's playing hard to get, huh? Maybe it's all a strategy, like in dating! #PoliticalFlirt"

Another X user remarked, "Well said, not to copy Joe Biden"

Finally, this user tweeted: "She’d only be another USELESS Kamala. Good choice, Trump!"
