The Daily Mail reported that an 11-month-old boy, a twin, died after being scalded by steam from a malfunctioning radiator in a Brooklyn apartment. The boy was taken to Maimonides Medical Center but could not be saved.
News12 Brooklyn said that NYPD officers arrived at 890 East 14th St at 6 am following a 911 call. They discovered the baby in a bedroom with severe burns from the steaming radiator.
The Daily Mail shared a video of police cars surrounding the building and officers examining the outside, especially the back.
The Daily Mail also reported that officials had requested an inspection from the city’s Buildings Department because of a faulty radiator that filled the bedroom with steam.
The New York Times said that the boy’s mother was feeding his twin when he entered the bedroom and was exposed to the steam.
The Daily Mail said that Approved Oil, the Brooklyn firm that inspected the radiator in February 2023, said that the boiler had ‘no defects’ then.
The police are still probing the leak. The Daily Mail contacted the NYPD for more details. No one has so far been arrested.
