Sophia Bush reveals she secretly married Ashlyn Harris in 2025: ‘It was precious’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris are married after quietly tying the knot in an intimate ceremony in upstate New York in summer 2025, as revealed by Bush in her forthcoming memoir, 'And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.'
Bush and the former professional soccer player were joined by Harris’ two children, Sloane and Ocean, for the private celebration.
Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris marry privately
Bush, 44, and Harris, 40, have been together for three years and revealed details of their wedding to Vogue in a story published on Wednesday, September 30.
Bush explained that after spending much of their adult lives in the public eye, they wanted the milestone to remain intimate and personal.
Bush is known publicly as an actress, while Harris spent years as a professional athlete. “When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else,” Bush told the outlet.
She described being able to perform as an athlete or actor as “such a privilege,” while acknowledging that it also comes with certain costs.
The couple chose to set aside the pressures often associated with a large wedding and instead centered the day around their family.
Harris recalled that the children were “just running and happy,” while Sloane held flowers picked from the property.
She said the experience was fun for the children because it was not a “pressure-filled day” that could become overwhelming. Bush recalled that the newlyweds ended the evening roasting marshmallows with their family.
“It was so precious, and zero pressure,” she said, adding that she would never forget the experience and that wedding days are sometimes not like that. Rather than immediately announcing their marriage, the couple travelled around the country to share the news with their loved ones in person.
Sophia Bush opens up about marriage and love
The marriage revelation comes ahead of the October 27 release of Bush’s first memoir, 'And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress,' which has been nearly a decade in the making.
Bush previously said she had spent years turning down requests to write a book before finally feeling ready to answer the call.
In an excerpt published by Vogue, Bush reflects on her decision to keep her wedding private after years of having her personal life publicly scrutinized.
She writes that she wanted the milestone to belong to her and Harris before sharing it with the world.
Bush also writes about finding inspiration in Harris’ grandparents’ decades-long marriage and realizing that Harris was the person with whom she wanted to build her own life.
She reflects on embracing marriage again despite knowing that relationships can end. Bush was previously married to Chad Michael Murray from 2005 to 2006 and Grant Hughes from 2022 to 2024.
Bush and Harris were first linked in October 2023. Bush publicly came out as queer and confirmed their relationship in a 2024 Glamour cover story.
Harris said visibility remained important to them as they discussed sharing their relationship and marriage publicly.
