Ashlyn Harris applauds girlfriend Sophia Bush after she comes out as queer, Internet says 'whatever makes them happy'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'One Tree Hill' star Sophia Bush came out as "queer" in Glamour's April 2024 edition, and soccer star Ashlyn Harris declared herself "proud" of her partner.

Bush, 41, was going through a widely publicized divorce, while the former US women's national soccer team member was going through her separation from now ex-wife Ali Krieger, per Page Six.

In a piece published in Glamour magazine on Thursday, April 25, the former 'One Tree Hill' actress opened up about her current relationship with Ashlyn Harris.

Bush lamented her split from her now ex-husband Grant Hughes, with whom she had just been married for a year, and acknowledged that she "didn’t expect to find love."

Bush wrote a candid essay for the cover story about nearly putting off her June 2022 wedding to Hughes before their brief union and about feeling "real joy" as she came out as "queer" for the first time.

She wrote: "I don’t know how else to say it other than: I didn’t see it until I saw it. And I think it’s very easy not to see something that’s been in front of your face for a long time when you’d never looked at it as an option and you had never been looked at as an option."

"I finally feel like I can breathe. I don’t think I can explain how profound that is," Bush added. "I feel like I was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long."

Bush went on, "I hadn’t realized how heavy it was until I finally just put it down. This might sound crazy — but I think other people in trauma recovery will get it — I am taking deep breaths again."

"I can feel my legs and feet. I can feel my feet in my shoes right now. It makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time," she continued.

"Proud of you babe🥹🫠," the 38-year-old former USWNT player wrote when she shared a photo of Bush that was featured on the cover of the most recent issue of Glamour to her Instagram Story on Friday, April 26.

The cover quote from Bush's moving piece for the magazine was, "'I feel like I can finally breathe.'"

Bush was managing her marriage's breakdown while Harris was going through her divorce with Krieger. The two eventually grew closer over their shared hardship and started going to the same support group, per Page Six.

Following the former athlete's September 2023 divorce filing from his then-wife and fellow soccer pro, Ali Krieger, PEOPLE revealed in October that Bush and Harris were dating.

Social media users expressed their joy and enthusiasm as Ashlyn Harris showed her support for her girlfriend Sophia Bush for coming out of the closet.
