NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Author Stephen King has jumped into the growing controversy surrounding Jimmy Kimmel and First Lady Melania Trump, taking direct aim at what he described as hypocrisy after her criticism of the late-night host.

On April 28, King weighed in on X, responding to Melania’s demand that Kimmel be taken off the air.

King’s post directly referenced Melania Trump’s statement criticizing Kimmel’s remarks, but he turned the focus back on former comments made by President Donald Trump.

“Melania Trump says Jimmy Kimmel should be canceled. Last week, her husband commented on Robert Mueller’s death: ‘Good. I’m glad he’s dead,'” King wrote.

He didn’t stop there. The author went on to bring up another example involving filmmaker Rob Reiner.

“Said pretty much the same about my old friend Rob Reiner,” King added.

He ended his post with a pointed line: “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw shit.”

Jimmy Kimmel’s joke that sparked the controversy

The controversy began with a joke Kimmel made during a parody segment ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

While roasting political figures, he referred to the First Lady, saying she had “a glow like an expectant widow.”

In another line, he joked about her birthday, saying she would celebrate “looking out a window and whispering, ‘What have I done?’”

The remarks drew criticism online almost immediately.

But the situation escalated after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, when a shooting scare at the Washington Hilton shook attendees, including President Trump, Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance.

Although no one was killed, the incident heightened sensitivity around language and tone, especially jokes that some interpreted as crossing a line.

Melania Trump demands action against late-night host

In a statement posted on X on April 27, Melania Trump strongly criticized Kimmel’s remarks, calling them harmful and divisive.

“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country,” she wrote.

“His monologue about my family isn’t comedy; his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America.”

She also questioned whether such content should be broadcast to viewers every night.

“People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,” she added, urging ABC to take action.
