KYIV, UKRAINE: Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon lashed out at Republican Senator Lindsey Graham for backing Ukraine’s recent wave of drone strikes, which hit hard at Russia’s strategic air power over the weekend.

Ukraine’s latest offensive stunned military analysts and intensified global debate on the widening scope of the Russia-Ukraine war. Political figures in the US are clashing over America’s role in the conflict, reported Newsweek.

Ukraine's ambitious drone attack on Russia

Over the weekend, Kyiv launched an ambitious drone attack dubbed “Operation Spider’s Web” that successfully targeted four Russian air bases deep within enemy territory.

Ukrainian officials claimed the operation knocked out 41 strategic bombers.

The drones were shipped to Russia and hidden inside trucks fitted with retractable roofs. These vehicles, parked close to air bases, allowed the drones to be launched remotely without drawing attention.

Kyiv reported that its recent strike, which is being compared by some to Russia’s own “Pearl Harbor,” targeted four military bases and knocked out 41 strategic bombers, accounting for nearly a third of Russia’s long-range bomber fleet.

While Moscow confirmed some damage, it downplayed the scope of the attack, admitting only that several warplanes were hit.

Steve Bannon says Lindsey Graham is 'stirring it up' in Ukraine

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who visited Ukraine just days before the strike alongside Sen Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), praised Kyiv’s bold tactics.

“The ever-resourceful Ukraine used creative drone warfare tactics to successfully attack Russian bombers and military assets used to kill Ukrainian citizens and destroy their country,” Graham wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, June 1, while reacting to the Ukraine attack.

His show of support, however, drew sharp criticism from Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist to President Donald Trump and current host of the 'War Room' podcast. On Monday, June 2, Bannon accused Graham of “stirring it up” abroad and giving Ukrainians “false hope” of unlimited US backing.

Bannon argued that if the Trump administration wasn’t given a heads-up about Ukraine’s offensive reportedly called “Operation Spider’s Web,” then the White House should take immediate action.

“The White House has to condemn this immediately and pull all support (for Ukraine) and tell Lindsey Graham to come home or we are going to put you under arrest when you come home,” he said.

“Lindsey Graham's over there saying, ‘Hey, forget Trump. I’ve got the House and Senate,’” Bannon said, referencing Graham’s push for new Russia sanctions. “We're going to pass it. You're going to see something in a couple of days. Lindsay Graham is stirring it up right now.”

Bannon warned that Ukraine is “dragging us into a kinetic third world war.”

Steve Bannon argues Lindsey Graham must be 'jailed'

“He’s giving Ukrainians false hope, he’s giving Ukrainians false hope that we’re there to support them on engaging Russia in a kinetic conflict and we are not. One of the central parts of President Trump,” Bannon said on 'War Room'.

“Two things ought to happen; either cancel his passport and don’t let him back in the country, or put him in jail if he comes back. People better wake up to the fact that we’re getting sucked into this war and if we get sucked in much more,” he continued.

Bannon’s remarks come amid renewed fears that Ukraine’s drone strike could provoke severe Russian retaliation.

A Kremlin-aligned newspaper even floated the idea of a nuclear response, citing local analysts who believe Ukraine's growing aggression due to Western backing crosses a red line.

Steve Bannon’s fiery comments about Senator Lindsey Graham’s Ukraine visit struck a chord with his supporters, many of whom echoed calls for serious consequences.

On social media, several users suggested that Graham may have violated US law and should be investigated immediately.

“I’m not sure but I believe Lindsay is in violation of the Logan Act. And that is 100% illegal. And could be considered treason,” one user wrote on X.

Another said, “Logan Act violations and who knows what Lindsey or Blumenthal are promising in back room deals.”

Some also raised concerns about possible financial improprieties. “I agree that his passport should be seized and he should be investigated about what exactly was his trip to Ukraine about and look in his bank account to see if there's suspicious transactions,” one person commented.

The support for Bannon was vocal. “And Steve Bannon is right,” one person declared, while another remarked, “Agree with Bannon… 100%. GRAHAM belongs in prison.”

“Bannon has it right, once again,” one individual added.
