NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Veteran comedian Steve Martin has been declared by the internet as the perfect person to portray Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the newly declared Democratic vice presidential candidate, in the upcoming 50th season of 'Saturday Night Live,' reported the New York Post.

Vice President Kamala Harris announced Walz as her running mate who joined her on stage at her campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Social media is abuzz ever since over the physical resemblances between Martin, 78, and Walz, 60. Fans are hoping to see Martin take on the role, as the upcoming season of the SNL would be in the production through the 2024 presidential election.

Steve Martin's SNL career

Martin has hosted 'Saturday Night Live' for the second highest number of times, 16, surpassed only by Alec Balwin with 17 hosting appearances.

The actor-comedian is a veteran of the show as well, first appearing as a host nearly half a century ago, during Season 2 in 1976.

His last turn as the show host was in December 2022 during Season 48. Martin co-hosted an episode in the season with his 'Only Murders in the Building' co-star Martin Short, while Brandi Carlile starred as the musical guest.

Who plays Kamala Harris in SNL?

Actor-comedian Maya Rudolph, 52, is reportedly set to reprise her role as Vice President and Democratic nominee Harris, 59, in the upcoming season of SNL.

She first played Harris on the December 21, 2019, episode of the show, which was hosted by Eddie Murphy. Her performance was widely praised, as she ended up bagging the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for the role.
