LAKE HAVASU CITY, ARIZONA: 'Storage Wars' star Darrell Sheets had previously spoken about his battle with depression, reflecting on it publicly nearly 10 years before his death. In 2018, he shared an Instagram post showing him wearing sunglasses by a lakeside.
In the caption, he wrote, “Depression is the Devil’s way of attacking us.” Sheets passed away at the age of 67 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday, April 22.
Sheets was best known for his bold presence and competitive spirit. He built a strong fan following during his time on the hit reality series.
Darrell Sheets shared a powerful message on mental health years before his death
In 2018, he posted a photo of himself sitting by a lake wearing sunglasses, using a heavy caption to reflect on the emotional weight of his mental peace.
He wrote, "It knows no mercy, it takes our smiles, it comes and goes, it ruins our relationships, it takes away our happiness, it leads to s*****e in some cases, it destroys all thoughts of positivity, it is a 24/7 battle and allows no rest for the suffering."
He continued by stressing how serious the condition is, "It's a very real deal," Sheets continued at the time. "So please next time someone tells you they have Depression, be kind and know that they spend every minute they have breathing, suffering!!!"
After the news of his death, his 'Storage Wars' co-star Rene Nezhoda expressed concern about the role of cyberbullying, highlighting how online harassment can deeply affect people and contribute to emotional distress.
Darrell Sheets found dead in Arizona residence
According to the Lake Havasu City Police Department, officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 2 am on Wednesday, April 22, where they discovered Sheets deceased inside a residence. Preliminary information suggests he may have died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In an official statement, authorities said, "Upon arrival, officers located a male subject who suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," and confirmed that, "The male was pronounced deceased on scene."

The statement further added, "The Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation. The body was ultimately turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation."
"The male subject has been identified as Darrell Sheets, a 67-year-old resident of Lake Havasu City, and Darrell’s family has been notified," they shared.
