Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump's 2006 encounter
The Stormy Daniels-Donald Trump scandal revolves around an alleged one-night sexual encounter between Daniels and Trump.
Additionally, Trump fabricated financial records as part of a scheme to hide the information in the months leading up to the 2016 presidential election.
In 2018, the Wall Street Journal disclosed that Daniels received $130,000 from Michael Cohen, the former attorney of Donald Trump, in return for her silence during the 2016 US presidential campaign, according to Times Now News.
After the announcement, Cohen voluntarily cooperated with federal investigators and admitted that the money given to Daniels was an illegal contribution to Trump's campaign to influence the result of the 2016 election.
Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison in December 2018 after he acknowledged committing these and other crimes.
Stormy Daniels shares details of meeting Donald Trump
The issue gained more prominence in 2018 when it was revealed that Trump had allegedly reimbursed Cohen using fictitious corporate documents meant to hide their true nature.
After their brief encounter in 2006, Daniels most recently testified under oath that she was invited to dinner and instructed to meet Trump at his hotel room.
Daniels said in her deposition that Trump had asked her a lot of questions concerning her childhood and she revealed that she had been poor.
It is also reported that Trump questioned a great deal about the economics of producing adult videos, delving into issues like STD testing and condom use.
According to the Wall Street Journal report, Michael Cohen, Trump's special counsel and executive vice president of The Trump Organization, arranged for Stormy Daniels to receive US$130,000 in October 2016, just before the US presidential election, to keep her from disclosing an alleged affair between her and Trump in July 2006.
