WATERTOWN, WISCONSIN: Senator Tammy Baldwin, previously one of President Joe Biden’s staunchest allies in Congress, is now navigating a new direction following the president’s poor performance in last week’s debate.

The 62-year-old Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) has chosen to forgo President Biden's visit to her hometown of Madison this Friday, July 5, opting instead for a previously scheduled tour of northern Wisconsin.

“Tammy Baldwin is running her own race for the people of Wisconsin,” her campaign spokesman Andrew Mamo stated, signaling a distinct separation from the Biden camp, per New York Post.

Joe Biden's debate performance fuels political stance

This decision comes as polls show Baldwin ahead of Biden in Wisconsin. Despite Dane County being a Democratic stronghold—where Biden won decisively over Donald Trump by more than 52 percentage points four years ago—the president's upcoming visit after the holiday suggests increasing concern among Democrats following his debate stumble on June 27.

During the 90-minute televised debate, President Biden frequently mumbled, trailed off mid-sentence, and struggled to articulate his points.

Trump took the chance to ridicule Biden's occasionally unclear statements. The incumbent frequently stumbled during his responses and, at one instance, paused before stating, "I beat Medicare."

Polls show Biden struggling in Wisconsin as GOP criticism mounts

According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Baldwin holds a 7.8-point lead over her Republican challenger, Eric Hovde, while Biden and Trump are in a tight race.

Hovde’s spokesperson, Zach Bannon, criticized Baldwin, saying, “After being a rubber stamp for the disastrous Biden agenda for nearly four years, Sen Baldwin is now making up excuses to avoid being seen with President Biden.”

Data from FiveThirtyEight shows Baldwin aligned with the White House's position 96.4% of the time in 2023. Despite this, she and other Democratic battleground senators recently declined an invitation to join Biden at the unveiling of his new border policy.

In a recent podcast interview, Baldwin's only criticism of Biden's campaign was his failure to sufficiently highlight his legislative successes.

Netizens react to Tammy Baldwin's snub of Joe Biden

A wave of reactions flooded social media following Sen Tammy Baldwin's decision to distance herself from President Biden.

A social media user tweeted, "What a shame!"

Another said, "she was instructed to distance by her handlers." [sic]

A third claimed, "They were all part of the sham plan and now they are distancing themselves. Tells you everything you need to know about what kind of people they are."

"Senator Scared," read a tweet. "Dems opened up Pandora’s Box with Lawfare. Now they’re shitting themselves because it’s all unraveling," penned a user.
