Ted Cruz labels Barack Obama a 'talented communicator', suggests he and Michelle would defeat Trump
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Republican Senator Ted Cruz called Barack Obama a "talented communicator" and suggested that he, along with his wife Michelle Obama, would defeat GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump in a race for the White House if they were eligible to run.
Cruz, who backed Trump as the Republican nominee, said that he disagreed with Obama 'on virtually every issue' and that he could not run for the presidency even if he wanted to as, per the Constitution, per Newsweek.
Ted Cruz says Barack and Michelle Obama would beat Donald Trump
Ted Cruz said on his podcast 'Verdict', "Thank God for the 22nd amendment" and added that had Michelle Obama been on the ticket, "their odds of winning would be very, very high."
He said, "If I were a Democrat, I'd have been all in on Michelle because Michelle would have been an incredibly formidable candidate."
He added that Michelle did not look for nomination because she "likes to take more than she needs. She likes to fly in a G5. She likes to party with Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney. She lives the life of a movie star and so decided not to do that [run for office]."
"She would have been an incredibly dangerous candidate," he said.
Cruz also mentioned that Republicans are fortunate enough that Michelle did not seek the nomination. He said, "I'm grateful for America that she did [not run]. She would have been an incredibly dangerous candidate. Listening to Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, they may be the two most dangerous demagogues in our country."
The Obamas show support for Kamala Harris during DNC speech
Barack and Michelle Obama showed their support for Kamala Harris during their Democratic National Convention (DNC) speeches on Tuesday, August 20, per TIME.
Barack Obama's speech was a pitch for the Democratic presidential nominee. He talked about Harris’ record as a prosecutor and politician and also looked to contrast her career in public service with Trump’s background as a real estate magnate, media personality, and political provocateur.
Obama said, "Kamala Harris won’t be focused on her problems. She’ll be focused on yours."
Similarly, Michelle too praised Harris, per the New York Times, and said, "My girl, Kamala Harris, is more than ready for this moment. She is one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency. And she is one of the most dignified."
She added, "Kamala has shown her allegiance to this nation. Not by spewing anger and bitterness, but by living a life of service, and always pushing the doors of opportunity open to others."
