Trump refutes claim he called up Fox News to critique Kamala Harris’ DNC speech: ‘I’m the Ratings Machine’
WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has refuted allegations that he initiated a call to Fox News after Kamala Harris' speech at the Democratic National Convention, asserting instead that host Bret Baier contacted him.
The former president was referring to an opinion piece by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, published on Saturday, August 24, which appeared to imply that he initiated the call to Baier and Martha MacCallum.
Donald Trump claims Fox News contacted him to critique Kamala Harris' speech
Donald Trump made a post on Truth Social on the morning of Sunday, August 25, stating, "Bret Baier of FoxNews called me, I didn't call him, just prior to the Harris Convention speech, and asked me if I would like to critique her after she is finished. I agreed to do so!"
He specifically singled out Dowd as a member of the "Fake News" media.
He stated, "The Fake News, like often 'gilted' Maureen Dowd of the failing New York Times, wrote incorrectly that I was making the calls. WRONG!!!"
The 78-year-old former president went on to say, "I don’t have to make calls to go on TV, or anything else - They call me! It’s called Ratings, I guess, and I’m the 'Ratings Machine!'"
The controversial line in Dowd's article appeared about halfway through, where she also criticized Trump for his numerous Truth Social posts that critiqued Harris' speech in real time.
According to Daily Mail, Dowd wrote, "He followed up the posts with a scream-of-consciousness call to Fox News, filibustering Bret Baier and Martha McCallum for 10 minutes until Baier abruptly cut him off to throw to the Greg Gutfeld comedy show."
Numerous liberals, including Dowd, focused on the incident where Baier indeed interrupted Trump mid-sentence to switch to Gutfeld's late-night program. Gutfeld acknowledged this event at the beginning of his show.
"That wasn't my fault, Donald Trump," he said.
Donald Trump criticized Kamala Harris' foreign policies
During Kamala Harris' DNC speech, Donald Trump consistently labeled her as a "radical" and tried out the nickname "Comrade Kamala Harris". He criticized her for omitting topics such as China, fracking, and energy, and claimed she failed to address the Russia and Ukraine issue properly.
He persisted in attacking her foreign policy, alleging that Harris "will take us into a Nuclear World War III!"
Meanwhile, at the DNC podium, Harris concentrated on Trump's character, labeling him an "unserious man".
She highlighted his conduct on January 6, when his supporters stormed the Capitol attempting to reverse the 2020 election outcome.
She also referred to the crimes he has been accused of, including the hush money case in Manhattan where he was found guilty. Numerous political analysts have indicated that Kamala Harris is experiencing a honeymoon phase after succeeding Joe Biden as the 2024 nominee.
The polls continue to indicate a very tight race between Harris and Trump this November.
Internet slams Donald Trump for rant against Fox News
As soon as Daily Mail published the news, readers started reacting to it.
Talking of Trump, a user claimed, "He's far too old for all this pressure. He just wouldn't let go after his bitter last election defeat."
Another added, "Another reason the debate should be entertaining is that donald j. trump has no self control whatsoever."
The third commentator wrote, "Trump's problem is that he's a compulsive liar; nobody can believe a word he says."
"Well it's clear he made some calls. Always about projection with him. Sad," one said.
A person slammed Trump repeating his words, "They called me I didn’t call them. He is so childish."
Other chimed in, "Trump couldn't tell the truth to save his life!"
