NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Representative Ayanna Pressley from the Squad argued on Capitol Hill this week that the recent closure of a Walgreens in Massachusetts is “racist."

However, it was also reported that the closure is attributed to a planned downsizing strategy in response to increased crime and theft in the area.

Following this news, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity took to X, formerly known as Twitter to report on Pressley’s “cries” as several people on the internet slammed the Squad member.

Sean Hannity reports on Ayanna Pressley crying about racism

Fox News host Sean Hannity took to X and wrote, “PRESSLEY CRIES RACISM! Walgreens Closes Due to Crime and Theft, Squad Rep Says That's Racist [WATCH].”

Hannity’s tweet featured an article that reported that Ayanna Pressley, a Democrat from Massachusetts, strongly criticized the "multi-billion dollar corporation," Walgreens during a speech on the House floor, condemning their choice to withdraw from the predominantly Black and Hispanic neighborhood of Roxbury.

She expressed her concerns about the closure, emphasizing that this marks the fourth Walgreens store to shut down in Boston in a little over a year.

She argued during her speech in Capitol Hill stating, “Mr Speaker, Walgreens is planning to close yet another pharmacy in the Massachusetts Seventh — this time on Warren Street in Roxbury, a community that is 85 percent black and Latino,” she began, explaining that this closure is “part of a larger trend of abandoning low-income communities.”

She continued, “When a Walgreens leaves a neighborhood, they disrupt the entire community, and they take with them baby formula, diapers, asthma inhalers, life-saving medications, and, of course, jobs,” she continued, explaining her belief that these closures are “not arbitrary, and they are not innocent.”

Pressley expressed her concern, questioning the lack of community input on the issue, stating, "They are life-threatening acts of racial and economic discrimination. That is why I joined with Senators Markey and Warren to demand answers from Walgreens' CEO."

She further added, “No adequate notice to customers and no transition resources to prevent gaps in health care? Shame on you, Walgreens. Having a website with talking points about health equity and underserved communities is not enough.”

“Walgreens is a multibillion-dollar corporation that needs to put their money where their mouth is,” she concluded.

Also, as per WBUR, Walgreens is set to automatically transfer the prescriptions of customers from the Warren Street store to the nearest alternative location at 1890 Columbus Ave following the closure.

Internet calls out Ayanna Pressley for calling 'racist' card

Many X users slammed Ayanna Pressley over her remarks.

One person wrote, “That’s all they know how to do is cry racism. No self awareness, no policy considerations or self reflection, only racism [sic],” and another said, “Would she be saying that if she were the owner of it [sic].”

An X user simply slammed Pressley, “Of course, this is always the answer,” and another added, “Does anyone really care if she cries Racist anymore? She's used it so much nobody really cares because they expect it to come out of her mouth.”

One more person trolled Pressley, “She's complaining about a privately owned business? That would be like Biden complaining to Baskin Robbins for not having his favorite ice cream flavor,” and another said, “That's the only way she can pretend to defend herself.”
