'The View' rejects Zohran Mamdani's request to bring DSA candidates on show over FCC concerns: Report
WASHINGTON, DC: ABC's extra-cautious daytime talk show, 'The View,' reportedly declined a request from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to bring two Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) congressional candidates onto the program as the Disney-owned network scaled back political guest bookings.
The reported decision came as the network navigated an ongoing Federal Communications Commission (FCC) inquiry into whether 'The View' qualifies for an exemption from the agency's equal-time rule, prompting producers to take a more cautious approach to political candidate appearances, according to Semafor

A source familiar with the matter told Semafor that a representative for Mamdani pitched the show a joint interview featuring the mayor and Democratic Socialists of America candidates Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez.
Both candidates went on to secure their Democratic congressional nominations. Chevalier ousted five-term Rep. Adriano Espaillat in Manhattan's 13th Congressional District, while Queens Assemblywoman Valdez won the Democratic nomination in the open 7th District the mayor and Democratic Socialist of America (DSA) candidates Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez.
However, the show's producers reportedly declined the request, noting that they were proceeding cautiously with political candidate bookings while the FCC's equal-time inquiry remained ongoing
The Federal Communications Commission launched the inquiry into 'The View' to determine whether the talk show violated the equal-time rule, which requires Democratic and Republican candidates to receive equal airtime.
ABC has strongly pushed back against the inquiry, arguing that 'The View' has been recognized by the FCC for more than two decades as a bona fide news interview program that is exempt from the equal-time requirement.
Although the commission has not issued a final ruling or any public enforcement order, the daytime talk show has reportedly begun scaling back political guest bookings, according to sources who spoke to Semafor.
"One network source noted to Semafor that the show's standard for political candidates is high, and while politics is a part of the discussions, the show largely focuses on booking celebrities or national political figures," the outlet reported.
Tensions grow between 'The View' and Zohran Mamdani's political allies
The reported rejection came amid growing tensions between 'The View' and figures within Mamdani's political orbit.
According to Semafor, some of the mayor's allies grew frustrated with the show's recent political coverage, particularly co-host Sara Haines' remarks about Avila Chevalier.
During a June 24 episode of 'The View,' co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Haines pushed back against the actions and comments of several candidates backed by Mamdani.
Haines criticized Chevalier for attending an anti-Israel rally on October 8, 2023, the day after Hamas carried out its deadly attack on Israel.
"I'm gonna full-blown call her an antisemite. She would proudly call herself that, trust me," Haines said of Chevalier.
Following those comments, an aide to the socialist mayor reportedly criticized ABC executives and said Haines' remarks could affect future appearances on the show for Mamdani or the congressional candidates, according to Semafor, citing a person familiar with the matter.
