WASHINGTON, DC: The United Auto Workers (UAW) union publicly endorsed Biden, but some of its active and retired members say they're starting to change their minds. A UAW member told FOX Business’ Grady Trimble outside the union headquarters in Detroit, "Donald Trump speaks our language. He came in and spoke directly to us."

Another member added during Varney & Co, "I would say, among the people I work with across all demographic spans, really, there’s a lot of support for Trump."

The UAW supported President Biden's bid for reelection in January 2024. Following their endorsement, the union's president, Shawn Fain, informed the media that the vast majority of working-class Americans would choose to support Biden over Trump.

Fain said, "I believe the overwhelming majority of UAW members and working-class people, when the facts and the truth are put in front of them, will support Joe Biden for president."

During their strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis last fall, the UAW's six-week picket line in Michigan raised significant labor and market issues. In reaction to the union endorsing Biden, Trump issued a strong warning, announcing that Democrats' aggressive push for electric vehicles may one day endanger their careers.

In a recent 'Sunday Mornings Futures' interview, Trump told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo, "If Biden gets elected, you won’t have an autoworker working in the United States. Everything’s going over to China and other countries outside. This electric car mandate is insane."

He added, "They don’t go far, they cost too much, and they’re going to be made in China because they have the material to make them. We have oil and gas, we have gasoline, and that’s what people want, for the most part."

Internet reacts

People on the internet had mixed reactions as UAW members said they find Donald Trump much more trustworthy than Joe Biden. A user on X posted, "It might have something to do with the fact that Biden mumbles" whereas one added, "Corrupt bought and paid for." A user also wrote, "They asked one guy."

A person also stated, "That’s because Trump supported the creation of Union jobs when he was building the NYC skyline" whereas one mentioned, "And he’s close to securing the Teamster’s bosses. He already has the workers. The Basement Dummy is sinking faster than the Titanic."

Another person wrote, "When has Trump gone to talk to workers? His visit to Drake Enterprises, the non-union auto parts manufacturer He doesn’t speak Union. He hates the Union. His record is horrible for unions."
