'They're silencing her': The Daily Wire slammed for obtaining gag order against Candace Owens after promoting Ben Shapiro debate for weeks

WASHINGTON, DC: The Daily Wire, a conservative news outlet co-founded by Ben Shapiro, reportedly obtained a gag order against its former host, Candace Owens, without her knowledge.

This was while the company was publicly negotiating to organize a debate between Owens and Shapiro.

Owens' association with the Daily Wire ended in March 2024 due to disagreements over Israel and antisemitism, according to the Independent.

However, the company has maintained that it had sought to arrange a debate between Owens and Shapiro.

Veteran journalist Glenn Greenwald revealed on Thursday that the Daily Wire had brought in a private arbitrator to prohibit Owens from publicly deprecating the company, stating her demand for a debate as an instance of the same.

The right-wing media company argued that while it did not object to "healthy debate" in principle, Owens' manner of requesting and negotiating it violated her contract.

Greenwald wrote, "The Daily Wire has ensured that the debate with Owens that they publicly claimed to want could not, in fact, take place."

"Any such debate would be in conflict with the gag order they obtained on Owens from expressing any criticisms of the site or of Shapiro," he alleged.

Jeremy Boreing, co-CEO of The Daily Wire, responded to Greenwald’s claims by calling it "inaccurate to the point of being false," although he did not refute any particular details.

"I’m sure you can appreciate how fraught a high profile break-up like this is. For that reason, we are trying to resolve our issues with Candace privately," Boreing reportedly told Greenwald.

Candace Owens told Greenwald, "I wish I could comment on this, but I can't."

This certainly is an unexpected turn of events in the ongoing right-wing media civil war between Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro.

The feud has seen both parties publicly insult and belittle each other since the start of the Hamas-Israel war last October, and the hostility between them has been escalating ever since.

Shapiro, who is Jewish and an advocate of free speech, is a strong supporter of Israel's government.

In the past, he made several controversial statements about Palestinians, including saying that they "like to bomb crap and live in open sewage."

However, he later clarified his statement by specifying that he was referring to "Arabs who actively seek Israel's destruction."

Owens, a Black woman who rose to prominence by urging African-Americans and other people of color to leave the Democratic Party, has been critical of Israel's treatment of Palestinian civilians.

She has also questioned the USA's continued financial support to Israel. However, Owens has also made some contentious remarks about Jews, such as speculating about a "gang" of Jewish criminals manipulating Hollywood and the media.

She has also liked antisemitic tweets on X (formerly Twitter), defended antisemitic comments by Kanye West, and claimed that the issue with Hitler was only that "he had dreams outside of Germany."
