WASHINGTON, DC: Candace Owens, a figure known for her conservative stance, stirred up a storm after expressing her approval of the overturning of Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction.

But it wasn't just her controversial take on legal issues that caught the audience's attention. Owens also made waves by announcing her recent conversion to Catholicism.

Describing it as a homecoming, she completed her spiritual journey at the esteemed Brompton Oratory in London's Knightsbridge neighborhood.

Candace Owens celebrates Harvey Weinstein's conviction overturning

According to Newsweek, Owens praised a New York appeals court for overturning the 2020 rape conviction against former Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

The court announced on Thursday, April 25, that Weinstein's conviction will be overturned citing improper rulings by the judge overseeing the case, including allowing a woman to testify about allegations unrelated to Weinstein's case, as reported by Newsweek.

In February 2020, Weinstein was convicted of third-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act. Later, he faced additional convictions for rape and other sexual assault charges in a separate Los Angeles case, where he's currently serving a 16-year sentence.

Seeking to appeal both verdicts, Weinstein's legal battles continue.

The ruling sparked discussions on social media about Weinstein's case, with conservative commentator Owens agreeing with the overturned charges.

In a post on X, she wrote, "You can say what you will about Harvey Weinstein, but the case against him in New York was one of the most absurd convictions I’ve ever seen. Read the case details. Full on witch hunt. Glad it was overturned. New York has a real problem."

In a follow-up tweet, she added, "I should edit this to say the courts in general have become playgrounds for “social justice” rather than actual justice."
