MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Renowned conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has raised alarm bells over the growing influence of TikTok in the United States, advocating for decisive action to address its Chinese ownership.

Shapiro's remarks come amid mounting concerns over the platform's role in shaping public discourse and exacerbating social divisions.

Ben Shapiro critiques TikTok's influence and Chinese ownership

In a recent commentary on his show, Shapiro highlighted the House of Representatives' passage of a bill aimed at compelling TikTok to divest its Chinese ownership.

He said, "TikTok has now been almost banned in the United States. I say almost because the House of Representatives has now passed a bill that would effectively force TikTok to divest its Chinese ownership."

Continuing, he said, "Which makes perfect sense. TikTok is a viral psyop that was created by the Chinese government."

Defining the social media's characteristics, Shapiro said, "It's incredibly sophisticated algorithmically. It is amazing at picking up viral content and then magnifying it but there are editorial choices made inside that algorithm about which content to magnify in the United States."

He then pointed to the proliferation of politically polarizing narratives and the promotion of the LGBTQ+ agenda as evidence of TikTok's influence on societal discourse.

Drawing a stark contrast between TikTok's operations in the United States and China, Shapiro emphasized the absence of similar editorial choices within the platform's Chinese counterpart.

Shapiro recommended, "To understand just what the Chinese are doing with TikTok really you should pick up a copy of Peter Schwitzer's new book 'Blood Money'."

Internet reacts to Ben Shapiro's warning about TikTok's influence

According to Shapiro, "What TikTok is doing is that they're really attempting to dissolve the social unity of the United States through social media division." He warned against underestimating the platform's potential to sow discord and undermine democratic institutions.

He said, "There had been a longtime communist strategy during the Vietnam War."

"They create this very highly addictive, highly watchable medium and then they control exactly what people see while gathering data about you," Shapiro enlightened his viewers, adding, "If they can do all of that then they can undermine the power of the United States not only at home but in the world."

Amid these current advancements, people took to social media platforms to articulate their perspectives.

One person wrote, "Ben Shapiro stands against free speech when it helps Isreal."

"Shapiro backs authoritarianism in the US provided it helps the criminal Israeli regime—this should show anyone following how much of an anti-freedom, pro-censorship charlatan he actually is when it suits him. Being pro-freedom is universal, not just when you like it, you fraud," said another person.

"You can attempt to silence us but we see you now Ben. We see your lies to protect jewish interests. We see your lies to deflect blame from Israel. We see your coercions of the richest man in the world for jewry. The eyes of the goyim are no longer deceived. We see you clearly," remarked another.

"We all know you want it banned because they don't censor anti-Israeli content," voiced another individual.
