Donald Trump trolled as TikTok investor Jeff Yass' name floated for ex-prez's Treasury Secretary pick
WASHINGTON, DC: According to NBC News on Thursday, March 14, former president Donald Trump is thinking of appointing hedge fund manager Jeff Yass as his Treasury secretary if he wins the November presidential election.
Susquehanna International Group, an investment firm co-founded by Yass, holds a 15% share in ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok. Yass himself owns a 7% stake worth around $21 billion, as per the media outlet.
Jeff Yass for Treasury Secretary
The initial news about the probability of Yass joining Trump's Cabinet was reported by Bloomberg News. According to the publication, Scott Bessent, the founder of Key Square Group LP, John Paulson, the founder of Paulson & Co, and Robert Lighthizer, the former US Trade Representative in the Trump administration, are among the candidates for the post of Treasury Secretary.
On March 14, several Trump campaign staffers refuted reports that the presumed Republican nominee for president was considering Cabinet nominations before facing off against President Biden in the general election.
An official told the New York Post, "President Trump is focused on the election, not staffing the Administration."
Meanwhile, Trump campaign adviser Steven Cheung said in a statement, "There have been no discussions about who will serve in a second Trump Administration. President Trump will ultimately choose the best people for his Cabinet to undo all the damage Crooked Joe Biden has done to our country."
Trump hinted last week that he was against the TikTok divestment bill, claiming that it would benefit Facebook, whom he referred to as "a true Enemy of the People!"
The former president wrote in a Truth Social post, "If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business. I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better. They are a true Enemy of the People!"
After receiving an offer from Yass, earlier this month, to appear at an event organized by Club for Growth, a pro-business organization that is against the ban on TikTok, Trump decided to oppose the measure. Before August 2020, when ByteDance was given 45 days to sell the social media network, Trump signed an executive order in support of outlawing TikTok in the United States.
Internet trolls Donald Trump
Several people on the internet poked fun at former President Donald Trump when sources revealed the probability of hedge fund manager Jeff Yass being appointed as Trump's Treasury Secretary if he wins the November election.
A user wrote, "This has to be a joke. He hates DJT," while another one stated, "Draining the swamp has become loving the swamp."
A user also mentioned, "I bet he has more than just tiktok in his portfolio."
One person added, "Can we not?" while another user stated, "Trump is the worst evaluator of people".
