ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is backpedaling - hard.

After mocking Tesla and Elon Musk just last week over the company's slumping stock, he’s now trying to pass it all off as a joke. But the damage is done, and now social media is having a field day with his “joking” excuse.

Tim Walz walks back his comments

Speaking at a town hall in Rochester, Minnesota, Walz tried to downplay his previous Tesla diss, but in doing so he simply revealed his obsession with Musk.

“This guy bugs me in a way that’s probably unhealthy,” Walz admitted, referring to Musk. “I have to be careful about being a smarta–. I was making a joke. These people have no sense of humor. They are the most literal people.”

Literal or not, Tesla investors weren’t laughing. “But my point was, they’re all mad, and I said something I probably shouldn’t have about a company," Walz continued, as quoted by The Hill.

Rewind to earlier in the week. Walz was in Wisconsin, taking shots at Tesla’s plummeting stock price in the most passive-aggressive way possible.

“Some of you know this. On the iPhone, they’ve got that little stock app. I added Tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day — $225 and dropping,” Walz quipped. “And if you own one, we’re not blaming you. You can take dental floss and pull the Tesla thing off.”

That’s not exactly what you want to hear if you’re one of the 1.6 million Minnesota state pension holders with Tesla investments.

'Shark Tank' star Kevin O’Leary wasn’t having it. “That poor guy didn’t check his portfolio and his own pension plan for his state,” O’Leary said, shaking his head on CNN. “What’s the matter with that guy? He doesn’t check the well-being of his own constituents? What a bozo.”

But Walz wasn’t done. On Saturday, he took another jab at Musk over his involvement in DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), a project aimed at slashing the federal workforce.

“They’re all butthurt about the Tesla thing, but they don’t care about the disrespect they have shown to employees at the Minneapolis VA who care for our veterans, and they fire them. They don’t care,” he ranted.

“Maybe it’s just me. If I’m the richest man in the world, I’m like out on the streets handing out money,” he added. “It’d be fun as hell just to help people out. Go help people out. Not this guy," Walz added, despite Musk having donated billions to charity.

Social media destroys Tim Walz over his flip-flop

Social media was ruthless after Walz tried to backpedal on his Musk slander.

"'I have to be careful about being a smart***,' says the dumb***," one posted on X.

"Smarta**? Nobody would ever accuse Tim Walz of acting smart, he couldn’t identify intelligence if it slapped him in the face," another quipped.

"This guy is the dumbest fakest person I have ever seen," read a comment.

"Can you imagine being so desperate to dunk on Elon you cheer your own pension losing value, then backpedal with just joking when caught," someone else joked.

"Tim Walz is a gift to the Republican Party," another offered.
