NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News anchor Tomi Lahren is urging Republicans to see the latest Democratic victories as a “wake-up call.”

She pointed to election results in New Jersey and Virginia, as well as California’s Proposition 50 redistricting measure, saying they showed the GOP cannot afford complacency.

Lahren also cited the election of Zohran Mamdani as New York City mayor, calling it a signal that Republicans “can’t take anything for granted.”

Tomi Lahren’s warning to Republicans

During 'The Big Weekend Show,' Lahren and her co-hosts discussed the political landscape following Democrats’ strong performance in several states. The segment featured clips of Republicans downplaying the results, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said the outcomes were “no surprise” and that “no one should read too much into” them.

While agreeing that the results weren’t worth “wigging out over,” Lahren insisted that the GOP should not ignore what the numbers suggest.

“I think that it’s always a bad idea when Republicans get too cocky,” Lahren said. “We’ve done this before — seen this movie before — with the ‘Red Waves’ that were always supposed to crash but never did. Republicans would be wise to have a wake-up call and realize we can’t take anything for granted.”

Co-host Joey Jones agreed, noting that while New York City may not reflect national trends, the broader results show Democrats can pose a real challenge if they nominate “good, moderate candidates."

Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Comptroller Brad Lander, Transit Workers United President John Samuelson and Mobilization Coordinator, Communications Workers of America Local 1180 Helen Jarrett after riding the M57, the slowest bus in NYC, to speak about the need for his campaign promise of fast and free bus service. Earlier this week, Mamdani launched a “Costs Saved” calculator that helps to show much money people will save due to his three core policy proposals of universal childcare, a rent freeze for rent-stabilized apartments, and free buses. Lahren specifically called out Zohran Mamdani’s victory as mayor of New York City, remarking that the city “played itself” by electing a socialist. She added that while the results were “not necessarily a bellwether,” they demonstrate that Democrats can energize voters even in traditional Republican strongholds.

Mamdani’s win and his victory speech drew widespread attention among conservatives. President Trump reacted by calling the speech “dangerous” and “angry.”

“I think he should be nice to me,” Trump said. “I’m the one who sort of has to approve a lot of things coming to him, so he’s off to a bad start.”

Mamdani’s speech struck a progressive tone, declaring, “We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about.”

Democrats have recently flipped legislative seats in Iowa, won key statewide races in Virginia and New Jersey, and secured control of New York City’s mayoral office.

In Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger defeated Republican Winsome Earle-Sears by about 15 percentage points, with Democrats flipping 12 House of Delegates seats. In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill beat Republican Jack Ciattarelli by roughly 13 points.

Meanwhile, California’s Proposition 50 championed by Governor Gavin Newsom, gave the legislature new control over redistricting — a change likely to benefit Democrats in upcoming congressional races.
