NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Megyn Kelly, the host of her eponymous show, has triggered controversy by her comments on the Columbia University protesters who were detained by the NYPD.

Though she criticized the protesters on various points, her remarks about the appearance of the dissenters came in for severe backlash.

Controversy erupts as Kelly critiques appearance of radical student activists

"Why are they so unattractive?" she inquired, expressing a strong critique of the radical student activists.

She further asked, "I really legitimately want to know. Why are all the protestors so homely?"

She went on to suggest that the "attractive" and "intelligent" peers of the unconventional or unkempt-looking protesters are "not drawn to this nonsense. They're living their lives being successful."

Closing her thoughts, she remarked, "It's the unattractive and/or dumb people who feel the need to do this to feel like they matter. Sorry, hard truth."

Megyn Kelly has been notably unimpressed with radical students causing significant disruptions on their campuses in solidarity with Gaza.

Criticizing the situation, she condemned the students and their institution for permitting what she deemed as 'nonsense' to persist for an extended duration.

In anticipation of the NYPD's action on the night of April 30 to clear the anti-Israel protestors from Hamilton Hall, which they had forcefully occupied the previous night, Kelly voiced her disapproval of both the students and the school's handling of the situation.

"Yesterday (Monday), a deadline set by Columbia's president for the encampment to be disbanded came and went," Kelly remarked.

She added, "And now Columbia is vowing to suspend the students inside the encampment, but it seems they want to hand out the punishments in private. So as not to embarrass the little snowflakes."

Megyn Kelly sparks backlash

Internet erupted in outrage over Kelly's scathing critiques of the student protesters.

One viewer said, "Saying that may have outed you as one of the most repulsive products of modernity in Media that we have seen. What an utterly distasteful and unintelligent thing to say. Shame on you. You should be better than this."

Another viewer noted, "We need a scientific study of Megyn’s theory, the circumstantial evidence supporting it is voluminous!"

Another viewer noted, "Can you get any more superficial?"

Another person noted, "Why are you diverting attention away from the reason why they are protesting? They are protesting against Gaza genocide perpetrated by Israel aided by USA. Disgusting take by you."

One comment read, "Truly vile post."

Another comment read, "I swear she is soooo on to something! I’ve listened to her since forever and she has mentioned this multiple times at different occasions/protests etc."

Another comment conveyed, "This type of rhetoric is why you got fired."
