WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has doubled down on his third-term ambitions. After repeatedly teasing a 2028 bid, the President now seemingly hinted that a ‘win’ in the next presidential election is already within his grasp.

The 80-year-old Commander-in-Chief embarked on another posting spree on Saturday, August 15, when he trotted out his ambitious bid, a claim that his critics have pointed to the Constitution as a barrier.

During the posting spree, Trump also shared AI-generated images of himself alongside George Washington, including one showing the two presidents signing documents with feather pens.

After sharing his routine AI posts attacking his critics, Trump returned to his third-term idea with an ominous-looking shot of him wearing a Trump 2028 hat.

The President wore a similar red ‘Trump 2028’ hat during his speech at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The black-and-white picture included the caption, “We are going to win.”

For anyone who has closely followed American politics in recent years, Trump’s latest remarks are hardly a surprise. The President has repeatedly floated the possibility of seeking another term in 2028, keeping the prospect alive despite constitutional questions surrounding a potential third presidential bid.

Trump reiterated his 2028 ambitions earlier this week at Joint Base Andrews, where a reporter pressed him about his third-term and ‘2028’ hat move at the Correspondents’ dinner.

“I’d love to run, but the law is very strong,” Trump said at that time. “I get asked by everyone. Even tonight, they’re screaming at the event, ‘2028!’ No, everybody wants me to do it, but the law is very strong.”

Trump was referring to the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two elected terms. The amendment was ratified in 1951, seven years after Franklin Delano Roosevelt made history by winning a fourth presidential election.

Who could become the Republican presidential candidate in 2028

As the President hints that he won’t try to test the Constitution’s ban on running for a third term, attention is increasingly turning to who could carry the GOP torch in the 2028 presidential election.

In the heavily crowded race, Vice President JD Vance has been emerging as an early favorite, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio rapidly closing the gap.

Vance won the 2026 CPAC straw poll with 53%, compared with Rubio’s 35%, while no other candidate received more than 2%.

Rubio, however, has gained significant ground in recent months. CNN data showed his prediction-market chances of becoming the GOP nominee rising sharply, turning what once looked like a clear Vance lead into a much closer contest.

Other Republicans could also enter the race, including Sen. Ted Cruz, who has already been mentioned as a potential Vance rival. Rand Paul has also indicated he is considering a presidential run, while Donald Trump Jr. represents another possible contender within the MAGA movement.

Trump’s eventual endorsement could prove decisive. He has called Vance highly capable and said the vice president would likely be favored, while also acknowledging Rubio as a potential successor.
