WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday, November 13, unveiled 'Fostering the Future', a new national initiative aimed at helping young people from foster care communities access higher education and technology-based career opportunities.

Speaking at the White House alongside President Donald Trump, the first lady said that the program would provide college scholarships and job-placement support to foster youth, empowering them to achieve financial independence and long-term stability.

“It’s truly inspiring to see everyone gathered here together, united in support of this remarkable initiative,” Melania said. “Our united resolve will foster a thriving future filled with compassion and innovation.”

Melania described 'Fostering the Future' as both “empathetic and strategic,” explaining that it seeks to eliminate the cycle of poverty and instability for foster children.

The first lady credited universities such as the University of Miami for joining the effort and said that the initiative’s goal is to build a nationwide network of educational institutions, private sector employers, and nonprofits committed to supporting children aging out of foster care.

This small spark today will ignite a profound and lasting nationwide movement,” she said. “Together, we will illuminate the pathway for today’s foster children to become tomorrow’s builders.”

President Trump signed the new executive order on 'Fostering the Future for American Children and Families', which he said would “make America’s foster care system better, fairer and more effective than ever before.”

The order directs federal agencies to coordinate with the first lady’s office in establishing mentorship, training, and employment programs for foster youth transitioning into adulthood.

“When Melania gets involved in things, it works,” the president said. “This initiative will help provide jobs and personal development opportunities to fantastic young people who need and deserve them.”

Trump praised foster youth like Eric from Omaha, Nebraska, who overcame childhood challenges to attend college and is now pursuing a master’s degree while serving as an ROTC cadet.

Faith-based groups and non-profit organizations to play key role

The president also emphasized the importance of faith-based and nonprofit organizations in strengthening the foster care system, saying they remain “the most trusted institutions” working with vulnerable children.

Trump vowed to protect the rights of religious families who chose to adopt or foster, criticizing “radical left policies” that he said made it harder for faith-based families to participate.

“As president, I will always stand for religious liberty,” Trump said. “The Bible tells us that one of the measures of any society is how it cares for vulnerable children and orphans.”
