WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump says authorities have now made six arrests and issued seven citations in connection with what he described as a deliberate act of vandalism at Washington’s newly renovated Reflecting Pool.

In a lengthy Truth Social post on Tuesday, June 23, Trump claimed investigators uncovered a massive “350-foot gash” stretching across the pool’s surface, insisting the damage was not accidental but the result of a carefully planned act carried out under the cover of darkness.

Trump details alleged sabotage

Offering his most detailed account yet of the controversy surrounding the landmark, Trump portrayed the damage as far more extensive than previously understood.

According to the president, the visible tear was not a single cut but a series of slashes running across roughly 350 feet of the pool’s surface.

He alleged that whoever carried out the act used an extremely sharp blade and worked deliberately over a long distance.

Trump also claimed another section near the bottom of the pool had been forcefully lifted from the surface, leaving behind uneven and jagged edges.

He described the destruction as intentional and criminal, arguing that it would have required significant effort to execute.

The president said damaged grass surrounding the site is already being replaced and maintained that the Reflecting Pool remains visually impressive despite the ongoing repairs.

He added that water levels will be reduced around the Fourth of July period so crews can complete permanent restoration work.

Vandalism claims fuel debate over pool repairs

The vandalism claims arrive at a time when the administration’s renovation project has already faced public criticism.

The Reflecting Pool underwent an expensive overhaul only recently, but attention quickly shifted from the renovation itself to reports of green water, algae growth and sections of blue coating appearing to peel away from the surface.

Earlier this week, Trump suggested the deterioration was not the result of construction flaws but evidence of deliberate sabotage.

He told reporters that a large cut had been discovered in the pool’s liner and speculated that a knife-like object may have been used.

The administration initially floated other possibilities as well, including the theory that harmful substances could have been introduced into the water.

While federal authorities have confirmed arrests and citations connected to alleged vandalism at the site, questions continue to swirl around the evidence supporting claims of a massive coordinated attack.

One individual detained during the investigation, former Olympic canoe athlete David Hearn, told reporters he was held for several hours after interacting with a loose section of paint near the pool.

Republicans have largely backed the administration’s position, arguing that investigators would not have made arrests without substantial evidence.

Democrats, however, have demanded more transparency. Critics have pointed to reports that the area is monitored continuously by security cameras and have called for footage to be released if investigators possess clear visual evidence of someone damaging the liner.
