WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump urged undocumented immigrants to opt for self-deportation through the newly launched CBP Home app by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in a video message shared by the White House on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, March 18.

The CBP Home app replaces the CBP One app, which included a feature that allowed migrants to seek asylum in the United States, as reported by Fox News

Donald Trump's message for illegal immigrants

Donald Trump called upon undocumented immigrants to avail the service of the CBP Home app, failing which they would still get deported and lose the opportunity to ever return to the United States in the process.

In the video message, the 78-year-old said, "People in our country can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way, and that's not pleasant. The Biden administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than 1 million aliens to illegally enter the United States."

"Now, my administration is launching the CBP Home app to give people in our country illegally an easy way to leave now and self-deport voluntarily," he added.

"If they do, they will have the opportunity to potentially return legally at some point in the future, but if they do not avail themselves of this opportunity, then they will be found. They will be deported, and they will never be admitted to the United States ever, ever again," Trump warned.

The POTUS further noted that the CBP Home app is the "safest option" for both illegal immigrants and law enforcement, as the latter can then focus spending resources on catching migrants convicted of violent crimes.

How does the CBP Home app function?

The CBP Home app allows undocumented immigrants to "Submit Intent to Depart" and upload related information for processing. Those who were paroled into the US using the CBP One app also have the option to verify that they have left the country.

Since taking office, Trump has delivered on his election season promise of expanding deportations and cutting back on immigration, including those receiving humanitarian parole. On his first day in the White House, the MAGA leader ended the use of the CBP One app to parole immigrants.

The federal administration has further paused applications for parole programs and allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to cancel the parole statuses of migrants. The extension of Temporary Protected Status for some nationalities has also been canceled.

Internet divided as Donald Trump announces launch of CBP Home app for self-deportation

Netizens had a varied reaction to the announcement of the CBP Home app. While conservatives cheered on the prospect of easy deportation, skeptics wondered whether the app would be used by many. The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent takes.

One wrote, "Self-deportation is so much better than the alternative," while another questioned, "Do you think people will actually use this?"

A person said, "They’ll be deported one way or another," and someone else added, "This is exactly what I voted for."

"Repurposing an official app to pump up fear of migrants into the general population doesn't do any good to your dignity," an individual expressed.

"Thank You Many in my family, including myself, came into this country the correct and legal way. The illegal aliens who got and are getting fast tracked is a slap in the face to those who followed the rules," read another comment.
