WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump publicly criticized Fox News on Wednesday, April 15, accusing the network of giving undue attention to Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Tom Steyer.

In a sharply worded post on Truth Social, Trump questioned the network’s editorial choices and warned that such coverage could hurt Republican chances in California, while simultaneously throwing his support behind a GOP contender in the race.

Trump blasts Fox News

In a post shared online, Trump expressed frustration over what he described as unnecessary visibility being given to Steyer.

“Why is Fox News showing SLEAZEBAG Tom Steyer and probably putting him ‘into play,’ instead of talking about Republican Candidates,” he wrote, using strong language to dismiss the Democrat’s candidacy.

He went further, claiming that the network’s coverage could influence the outcome of the race in a state he already views as difficult terrain for Republicans.

“Nobody cares about Tom Steyer, he is a LOSER, but Fox is making it possible for a guy like this to win,” Trump added.

The president used the moment to reiterate his backing for Steve Hilton, urging voters to support him as a way to “turn California around.”

Trump has previously endorsed Hilton, positioning him as a key Republican alternative in the state’s gubernatorial contest.

Tom Steyer later quoted Trump's post adding, “California: The man who brought you $8 gasoline would like you to vote for Steve Hilton.”

Fox News platforms Steyer's agenda

During a segment on Wednesday's show, Hilton discussed his campaign and aimed Steyer’s policy proposals, particularly on immigration.

At one point, a graphic outlining Steyer’s policy platform was displayed alongside the discussion, including references to his stance on immigration enforcement.

The segment also touched on Steyer’s campaign spending and polling position relative to other candidates.

Hilton criticized his opponent directly, arguing that Steyer’s proposals reflected what he described as “far-left extremism” and warned they would weaken enforcement measures.

“No one wants Tom Steyer, and why he is trying to buy the election? He has no real support, and you can see why when he comes out with insanity like this,” Hilton added.

His remarks were part of a critique of Democratic policy positions, which he linked to earlier approaches under the previous administration.

Trump’s criticism adds to a pattern of his public disputes with media organizations, including those often viewed as ideologically aligned.

He has previously taken issue with coverage decisions, particularly when he believes Republican candidates or positions are not being highlighted.

The latest remarks also come amid an increasingly competitive political environment in California, where Democrats have traditionally held an advantage.

By calling out coverage and promoting his preferred candidate, Trump appears to be attempting to shape both media focus and voter attention as the race develops.
