WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Wednesday, June 10, called on congressional Republicans to immediately advance a third budget reconciliation package, dubbed “Recon 3.0,” that would provide $350 billion in additional defense funding and include the SAVE America Act.

In a lengthy social media post, Trump described the proposal as essential to expanding military capabilities and strengthening election-related requirements. His appeal comes as several Republican lawmakers have expressed doubts about the prospects of another major reconciliation bill before the November midterm elections.

Trump calls for Immediate action on Defense-focused reconciliation bill

In a post on Truth Social and X, Trump urged Republican lawmakers to move quickly on the proposed legislation.

“I am hereby calling on Republicans in Congress to immediately advance and pass the forthcoming $350 Billion Reconciliation Bill (Recon 3.0), which, at the request of our Great Department of War, will include the SAVE America act as well,” Trump wrote. “No games, no delays, and no weak compromises! Do this asap.”

Trump described the proposal as a major long-term investment in the military and argued it would help achieve over a trillion dollars defense budget.

“This is a generational Investment in our Military, even bigger than President Reagan’s!” he wrote. “Recon 3.0 is the only path to the full $1.5 trillion dollar Military Budget our Warriors need in order to build the arsenal of freedom.”

The president said the funding would support projects including the Golden Dome missile defense initiative, the development of F-47 and B-21 aircraft, ammunition stockpiles, Space Force capabilities and drone programs.

“We will defend the Homeland with the Golden Dome, launch the unstoppable Golden Fleet, dominate the skies with the F-47 and B-21, supercharge our ammunition stockpiles, and achieve total Space Force and Drone Dominance!” Trump wrote.

His comments followed recent analyses indicating that replenishing advanced weapons systems used during the Iran conflict could take years.

SAVE America act faces continued Senate obstacles

Alongside defense funding, Trump called for inclusion of the SAVE America Act, legislation that would impose new federal election requirements.

According to Trump’s proposal, the measure would require photo identification for voters, proof of citizenship to register to vote, and restrictions on mail-in voting except in cases involving illness, disability, military service or travel.

“Also, with the SAVE America act, it will protect our Elections for Generations to come,” Trump wrote. “Our Warriors protect our most Sacred Rights, and Voting is at the top. Time to defend that Right for every American!”

The legislation has struggled to gain sufficient support in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Thune recently noted that the measure lacks the votes needed to overcome Senate procedural hurdles.

The SAVE America Act didn’t even get 50 votes last week on the floor of the Senate,” Thune said. “Even if you confine it to just the two issues of photo ID (to vote) and (documented proof of) citizenship in order to register to vote, on those two issues, it takes 60 votes in the Senate.”
