Trump beats out Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom in popularity: Survey
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has left behind former Vice President Kamala Harris and California Governor Gavin Newsom in overall popularity. NBC News conducted the survey and released the results on Monday, March 9, which showed 41% of participants favoring the president.
The survey results indicate that only 34% of the respondents approved of Harris, while 27% took the side of Newsom. Both are seen as potential Democratic candidates to run for the Oval Office in 2028.
Kamala Harris said she might run for president in 2028
However, none of them has publicly announced their bids. Earlier, Harris ignited speculations about her presidential run after she relaunched her 2024 campaign social media account, KamalaHQ.
She even released a new memoir, '107 Days', in which she wrote about her loss to Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Also, last year, the 61-year-old politician was apparently thinking about running for California governor.
“She has a lot of people in her ear telling her that it makes the most sense and she can do the most good,” a source had reportedly claimed. But that plan never took off.
However, during an interview with podcaster Sharon McMahon in February, Harris said she has not decided yet to run again but eventually added that she might.

Gavin Newsom said his presidential bid decision depends on his family
On the other hand, Newsom has revealed that it’s his family that will decide whether he will run for president or not.
Last month, the politician told CNN’s Dana Bash on ‘State of the Union’, “My son, Romeo, was very powerful, texted me a few months ago, and there was some headline that suggested that I made some decision, and he goes, ‘Dad, are you running [for] president?”
“I said, ‘No, we’ll do [the] decision as a family.’ He goes, ‘You can’t.’ I said, ‘Why?’ He goes, ’I’m too young. You need to spend more time with us.’ I mean, how do you deal with that one?” the California governor added.
Trump has floated both Marco Rubio and JD Vance as 'fantastic' 2028 candidates
From the Republican side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance are seen as potential candidates for the 2028 election.
Though none of them have declared their candidacy, Trump called them “fantastic”.
“We have three years to go. I don’t want to, you know, I have two people that are doing a great job. I don’t want to have an argument with, or I don’t want to use the word ‘fight’ — it wouldn’t be a fight. But look, JD is fantastic, and Marco is fantastic,” he added.
