The president also hinted that Jimmy Kimmel might be next to go.

Donald Trump says ‘I absolutely love’ that Stephen Colbert got fired

The decision to end Colbert’s late-night run comes after nearly a decade on air. The move sparked widespread debate online, especially since it followed Colbert’s recent criticism of CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global.

President Trump celebrated CBS’s decision on Truth Social, writing, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.”

Trump didn’t stop there. He took shots at other late-night hosts, saying, “I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!”

The president also said, “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”

Earlier this week, Colbert slammed Paramount Global during his monologue for its $16 million settlement with Trump in a '60 Minutes' dispute.

“I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles: It’s ‘big fat bribe,’” joked Colbert.

CBS insisted ratings weren’t a factor, stating, “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount. Our admiration, affection and respect for the talents of Stephen Colbert and his incredible team made this agonizing decision even more difficult.”

Colbert’s show averaged 2.5 million viewers during the second quarter of this year, while Gutfeld averaged about 3.3 million per show during the same time frame, per TV Insider.

Internet reacts to Donald Trump's response to end of Stephen Colbert’s show

Online reactions were mixed, with some questioning the timing of ending the show.

“It’s not about talent, its not about rating. probably it’s because of he is not in favour of Trump,” wrote one on X.

Another said, “That’s a bold claim from Trump — doubling down on his favorite TV ally while throwing shade at late-night comedy. The media battles never really stop.”

One user added, “He owns all of his critics. Another one gone. Who’s next?”

“Colbert was #1 in share for late shows. Also, you are not a gramma yelling at the tv, you are the PRESIDENT. Do presidential stuff. And release the f*****g files,” another wrote.

One more asked, “Was firing Colbert apart of the settlement?”

Another said, “No lie, Colbert became unwatchable after 2016.”
