WASHINGTON, DC: During‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ a public appearance at a black-tie dinner for Kennedy Center Honorees, President Donald Trump said the recent renovation work at the White House was all about preserving American heritage, and he was not very happy with the critiques that the changes were unnecessary or a waste of time.

Trump talked about the alterations that were made to the different areas of the historic building and mentioned that the project was overdue for a long ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌time.

Trump calls the new work done ‘so beautiful’

Trump‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ presented the redecorations as a mission to save American history.

He claimed that the previous administrations had neglected the deteriorating infrastructure in the White House and didn't do much to repair it.

Apart from that, he singled out the changes in the parts of the White House linked to former President Abraham ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Lincoln.

“The first four years, I was the hunted, so I didn’t have a lot of time to fix up the floors, to redo the Lincoln bathroom,” Trump said. “I took a little heat. It was the worst job that was done many years ago.”

In‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ a statement, Donald Trump alleged that the bathroom adjoining Lincoln had not been significantly redone since the time of the Truman administration, and he took a swipe at the stuff that had been used back then.

He asserted that among the things that had been done in the past was the installation of ‘very cheap green tile,’ and that the tiles were inappropriate for such a historic place as this ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌one.

Trump calls out critics who called his renovation ‘wasting time’

Trump said the area has since been updated using higher-quality materials. “Now we have it done in beautiful, beautiful parathese of marble,” he said. “It’s all book-matched. It’s so beautiful.”

He acknowledged that some critics questioned why such projects were a priority during his presidency, but argued those concerns misunderstood the purpose of the renovations.

“People said, ‘Oh, why is he wasting time?’” Trump said. “That’s not wasting time; that’s saving our heritage.”

It‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ was repeatedly stated by Trump that the focus was on looks and the quality of the work by the craftsmen, and he called the result ‘so beautiful.’

According to his account, the restorations were intentionally portrayed as rescuing the building, allowing him to frame them as preserving the nation’s past and history rather than indulging his personal preferences.
