WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has made a scapegoat of Joe Biden. The incumbent has blamed the former president for the worsening economy after implementing new tariffs.

Trump fired shots at Biden while speaking to reporters recently as he boasted about his new tariff policies which have faced immense criticism after causing the stock market to plummet, per OK Magazine.

Trump announced 'reciprocal' tariffs on almost 90 nations across the globe on April 2, Wednesday. In the days after Trump's announcement, stock markets in the US   were hit by their worst one-day falls since the beginning of the COVID pandemic in 2020. The S&P 500 has seen more than 10% of its value wiped out over three days, per BBC.

Trump's tariffs have affected global markets as well, stoking fears of an international trade war.

Donald Trump blames Joe Biden for worsening economy

However, Donald Trump has defended his tariff policy and pinned the blame for the economic crisis on former president Joe Biden.

According to Fox News, Trump said on Sunday, April 6, "Because of the tariffs we have $7 trillion already committed to be invested in the United States."

He continued, "Building auto plants, building chip companies — all sorts of companies are coming into our country at levels that we’ve never seen before."

"Biden had nothing coming in. This was a dead country with Biden. He didn’t know what he was doing and that’s now been proven," the POTUS added.

On Monday, Trump took another swipe at Biden with an update on the economy via Truth Social.

He wrote, "Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in billions of dollars a week from the abusing countries on tariffs that are already in place."

The POTUS continued, "This is despite the fact that the biggest abuser of them all, China, whose markets are crashing, just raised its tariffs by 34 percent], on top of its long term ridiculously high tariffs (Plus!), not acknowledging my warning for abusing countries not to retaliate. They’ve made enough, for decades, taking advantage of the Good OL’ USA!"

He added, "Our past 'leaders' are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
