Trump defends impact of his tariffs calling it a 'beautiful thing to behold'
President Trump defended his move in a Truth Social post on Sunday evening.
He wrote, "We have massive Financial Deficits with China, the European Union, and many others. The only way this problem can be cured is with TARIFFS, which are now bringing Tens of Billions of Dollars into the USA."
"They are already in effect, and a beautiful thing to behold," he continued.

The POTUS added, "The Surplus with these Countries has grown during the ‘Presidency’ of Sleepy Joe Biden. We are going to reverse it, and reverse it QUICKLY."
He also mentioned, "Some day people will realize that Tariffs, for the United States of America, are a very beautiful thing!"
Furthermore, many Trump supporters and surrogates also defended the tariffs on Sunday but were not entirely clear about whether or not there's room to negotiate on the subject, per Mediaite.

Moreover, on April 4, all three major stock indexes in the US fell more than 5 percent, while the S&P 500 dropped almost 6 percent in the worst week for the US stock market since 2020, according to BBC.
While speaking aboard the presidential plane on a flight back to Washington DC, the POTUS said that the European and Asian countries were "dying to make a deal".

Trump also pushed back against a reporter's question about US consumers' "pain threshold" as fears of steep price increases and a market recession grow, per BBC.
