VATICAN CITY, VATICAN: President Donald Trump was one of the many world leaders who were present in Vatican City to pay respects to late Pope Francis at his funeral on Saturday, April 26.

However, what grabbed people's attention and drew criticism was Trump's attire, as he decided to wear a blue suit to the funeral.

However, Trump wore a dark blue suit with a matching blue tie and white shirt.

Both the president and the first lady were seen bowing their heads respectfully as they stood before Pope Francis' coffin.

The Vatican hosted around 50 heads of state and multiple royals at the funeral in St Peter's Square, per Hello Magazine.

The funeral attracted thousands of mourners from around the world, leading the Italian authorities to execute one of the most complex security operations in decades, per the outlet.

Interestingly, the pope's funeral Mass coincided with Melania's birthday, and several sources informed People that the first lady, who is also the first practicing Catholic in her role since Jackie Kennedy, felt "honored" to attend the funeral.

Melania had visited the Vatican in 2017, where she met Pope Francis and had a rosary blessed by him.

A source informed the outlet, "Meeting the pope eight years ago made the trip to his funeral all the more important."

Pope Francis passed away on Monday, April 21, hours after meeting with Vice President JD Vance.

The meeting was the final chapter in Francis' contentious relationship with Trump's administration, mainly regarding the White House's policies on migration.

Internet slams Donald Trump for wearing dark blue suit to Pope Francis' funeral

Several social media users slammed Donald Trump as he wore a dark blue suit and a matching tie to Pope Francis' funeral instead of a black attire.

A user wrote on X, "Every man at the Pope’s funeral is wearing a black suit, except Trump. He’s wearing his usual ugly blue suit. With a 3-foot-long blue tie. And I see he finagled his way into the front row, when he was reportedly sitting in the third row. Money doesn’t buy class or respect."

Another added, "Only Trump could be so crass as to turn up at the Pope's funeral as the only dignitary in a blue suit. It rather sums him up."

A person stated, "I'm told Trump is at the Pope's funeral in a bright blue suit, in standing room. At least he won't fall asleep."

Another remarked, "I see that Trump’s wearing a blue suit to the Pope’s funeral so that he stands out. Tosser!"

A user also wrote, "How disrespectful, trump is at the Pope’s funeral wearing a blue suit & he looks completely out of place."

Another commented, "Trump wearing a blue suit to the Pope's funeral, the man has zero respect."

A person added, "#Trump made the Pope’s funeral all about himself, like the sniveling narcissist he is."
