WASHINGTON, DC: Rachel Vindman, wife of retired army lieutenant colonel Alexander Vindman who testified against former president Donald Trump during his first impeachment, took a subtle jab at the GOP candidate's "ears" in an X post after the second assassination attempt on him on Sunday, September 15.

Trump was reported to be safe after the Secret Service foiled what the FBI called an apparent assassination attempt while the former president was golfing in his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Law enforcement officials said that Secret Service agents spotted and shot at a gunman in bushes near the property line of the golf course, a few yards from where Trump was playing, per Reuters.

Trump was impeached for the first time on December 18, 2019 in relation to claims that he had allegedly solicited foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election and then refused to comply with subpoenas for documents and testimony. The trial began on January 16, 2020, and ended with an acquittal on February 5, 2020.

Besides Alexander Vindman, Gordon Sondland, US Ambassador to the European Union, was another witness in the first impeachment trial.

After the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump before the upcoming November election, Rachel Vindman took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "No ears were harmed. Carry on with your Sunday afternoon."

Trump had earlier survived an assassination attempt on July 13 at a rally in Bulter, Pennsylvania. He sustained a minor injury after a bullet grazed his ear.

After her post, Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita called on the candidate to denounce his wife’s words and wrote, "Her husband …a candidate for VA 7 …should condemn immediately".

He mistook Alexander Vindman for his brother, Eugene Vindman, who is running for the open seat in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, per the New York Post.

Alexander Vindman also fired back in a series of X posts and accused Trump and his supporters of causing violence.

He wrote, "I condemn you. I condemn your lack of integrity, your attacks on immigrants, your desecration of  Arlington National Cemetery."

He added, "Your candidate @realDonaldTrump has incited political violence for a decade. He could reduce the temperature of this election cycle. But you MAGA thrive on bullying. Fact is you are all weak."

On the other hand, Eugene Vindman wrote in his only X post on the assassination attempt, "I am deeply disturbed by yet another attempt of political violence in our nation. I am grateful that no one is hurt, and thankful for the law enforcement agents who acted bravely and swiftly in the line of duty."

Rachel also wrote on X, "Trump has been inciting violence against his enemies for years. He douses a situation in gasoline, lights a match, & walks away claiming no responsibility. Look at what is happening in Springfield, OH right now but he wants to claim he's a victim. You cannot have it both ways."
