WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Tuesday, November 3, joked that he could move to Israel and become its prime minister if Americans eventually turned against him, claiming that he enjoys 99% approval in the country.

Speaking to Fox News, as Americans headed to the polls for the 2026 midterm elections, Trump made the remark while discussing US-Israel relations and defending his record in office.

The president also announced that his administration intended to end billions of dollars in annual assistance to Israel after 2026.

Trump claims 99% approval in Israel

During the interview, Trump suggested that he could seek political office in Israel if his standing among American voters deteriorated.

"In fact, if people ever got tired of me in the US, I'll move to Israel, become prime minister," Trump said.

The president also repeated his claim that he had a 99% approval rating among Israelis, describing it as the "highest approval rating of anybody in history". However, he did not cite a poll or provide survey data to substantiate the figure.

Trump has made similar remarks before. In May 2026, he also joked about moving to Israel and becoming its prime minister while claiming to have 99% support in the country.

Trump made the remarks while discussing the relationship between Washington and Jerusalem, praising Israel as an important US partner and highlighting his administration's actions against Iran.

He also linked his claimed popularity in Israel to his approach toward Tehran.

The president's remarks, however, contrasted with polling on his standing in the United States. According to CNN's Poll of Polls, his overall approval rating stood at 34%, while 64% disapproved of his performance as of October 27.

An October CNN survey also found that 73% of respondents disapproved of his handling of the economy.

Trump plans to end $4 billion in annual US aid to Israel

During the same appearance, Trump announced that the United States would stop providing approximately $4 billion in annual assistance to Israel after the end of 2026.

The president said Israel no longer needed the financial support because of its economic strength and indicated that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had discussed the possibility for several years.

Trump also suggested that Washington would continue selling weapons to Israel and provide assistance if required.

The announcement raises questions about the future of the existing US-Israel military assistance arrangement, which provides approximately $3.8 billion annually through September 2028.

However, any changes to the funding agreement would require congressional approval.
